      Amazing!
What do you use for a PC?
This scene renders with me for about 30 minutes with this resolution 😉

My PC: I7 3.4 ghz, 16GB RAM, 4Gb Graphic, 64 bit . Not bad for this kind of Job.
This is reduced to be able to upload it here. This scene looks simple but every object (with exception of about 2 models)are highly detailed.

Normally when you have highly reflective objects, the size of this model, It will never be less than an hour. But hey, 8 hours is quite absurd.

I agree something must be conflicting with my 1.49 settings and the 1.6 beta, must be some materials or visopts.

    • My first run of vray 1.6

I was so excited to get hold of VFSU 1.6 beta.

First off, Good to see the progress bar back again
Second, the time it takes for the frame buffer to pop up after hitting the render button is greatly reduced.

Tried it with an old model which I posted in WIP sometime ago and the result is:

      1. Took me 8 hours 4 mins at 3000 x 2250 – about an hour longer than 1.49 – strange 
(could it be the materials are created in 1.49 and my visopt kinda clash someow)
      2. The IES map which worked with 1.49 doesn’t work with 1.6 . the default power which is “0” gives a pale projection and totally disappears as I increase.
      3. The quality of the render appears to be less.

I hope Im just doing things wrong here.

Im still trying out the rest of the features which Chaos calls “massive” . Hope to see great results next time around.

      2 questions .

Pardon what could be a silly question. Do I have to uninstall my licensed copy to install this beta. My good sense is telling me I should do that but last time I had trouble activating which resulted in a disruption of office work for 3day or so..

Will this upgrade come free for Licensed users?

    • Vray Frame Buffer question

Im not sure if this feature is ever available in Vray for sketchup or in any vray plugin in other platform.

Im just wondering if its possible to reload a previously rendered image in case I would need to do a part render after a machine restart.

We'll lets say, I did a 10 hr render of a scene, Then I was happy and so saved the image and closed down. the next day, I need to change a small accessory or change the map of a fabric.
Why do I have to redo a full render before I can do a part render to do small tests.

Have I been just missing this or there isn't such feature? Would really save me a lot of time if there is.

    • RE: Kitchen

Lighting is very well done! If Realism is your aim, try to work on the white material a little bit. The white is so uniformly matte. In reality all objects has some reflective property. Try to add some fresnel to the cabinets. The ceiling and wall are normally finished a little less glossy than the cabinetry. The other thing is to pay more attention to the fine details of the model. If you observe the real cabinet door. The corners wont be this sharp at all. even a 2or 3 mm round corner treatment will increase the realism. Other materials are great. Generally its fantastic!

    • Project texture map to back side??

Hi there. Is there a plugin that automatically projects the UV mapped texture to the back side? There are times when I struggled hard to UV map face, Then I needed to project the same
on the back side just so I could use a transparency map on it,

. If I just flip the face and apply the same map , and then flip it back. the mapping is lost and texture gets jumbled.

    • Help on Vray Transparency Map

      Hi everyone

Ive been wondering how to make my transparency Map work. I made a simple test and it gives me this results.

I used only 2 types of material. Glass material and another the one with the stripes map.

      1. The mapping on the drinking glass doesn’t show completely. The stripes should be seen wrapping around the object. But it’s only showing whats facing the camera..

      2. The shadow of the flat glass doesn’t show the stripes as it did on the drinking glass.
        Help anyone?

      3. I want to make that Yellow stripes shine like gold by adding reflections with high ior but doesnt work- Must be clasing with my trans map. I dont know.

      help anyone..

The reference is too good, and too detailed to be a 3d. I will further investigate.I worked in the joinery factory and I tell you veneers do repeat specially if they are from one batch, and yes we do flip them sometimes, just to break the noticeable repeats.

looking good.lighting seems okay and really nice curtains. But consider shifting the camera- It just doesnt look right. Probably your issue is the lack of space and you want to show everything in one shot. Is it?

of course sir. and my take is somebody's trying to give me a boost with encouraging words.

But hey honestly, for a while I investigate hard whether the linked image is 3d or photo. I saw some artists who will keep you thinking. Still very very far from there but im happy with my progress.

No promise to when, but... http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32810#p289240

Oh yes of course and I dream day and night to get hold of this plugin. 😄

Im not clear though what else it can do aside from what's shown in the video.
What Im talking about in my previous comment was like "nurms" subdivision that you tick on and off. Hope that's one feature you incorporated.

Finally, I hope SU can be rebuilt to work in quads, then importing and exporting from other platforms could be done seamlessly.

    • First attempt to copy photograph.

This is my first attempt at copying a photograph. Not my design, All credits for design goes to freshinteriorideas.com

My aim is to model each and every object in the scene as detailed as my really hectic sched will allow me after office hours. Then emulate the lighting using vray.

A few models are imported from 3d warehouse until I get time to model them. The carrots took me the most time to model:)

      The reference image is below.

    • RE: SU 9 Wishlist

I know there's a lot of people wish SU work like 3ds max wherein modifiers can be stacked.

If that is still years away from now, at least , I wish that SU can have subdivision tools (like Artisan) that can toggle low poly to high poly by controlling iterations or turn it off altogether. The thing is once a low poly geometry is smoothed or subdivided, it's difficult to edit anymore. The solution left is to always keep a copy of the low poly by the side which is not really convenient thing to do especially if most of the objects are kind of organic in shapes.

Also, if this is done then we can keep models on low poly thus keeping the size of the file smaller.

I wish that there will be x-ref function or a proxy system to make it more efficient in handling complex geometries.

And I wish it will be soon..

    • RE: Sketchup to 3DS Max - Vray

which 3ds max version are you using? 2011 or 2012 max imports skp files without any problems, vertices are welded automatically. I do that all the time and its almost seamless. But after import its difficult to add modifiers to the geometry, as it can cause crashing. But you can UV map there without a problem.

I have edit the model a little bit further, and made some quick renders aswell.
So i think this will be my final update on this one.

Hey frank.. You called this quick renders but I thought that was very nice materials and rendering you got there. Is this rendered in Vray for sketchup? Would you be so kind to share me this file if its not asking too much. I particularly like the floor material and your render settings.
