Thought at first, Solo made it all in pure sketchup,I was dumbfounded til I read further.
But really, hats off to Solo for that perfect UV job.

Cloth modifiers in 3ds max and similar tools in blender does it so well and even animate it perfectly. That is letting the computer do the artistry and spare yourself from such tedious repetitive work (speed depends on ram though).

I wonder if its ever possible to make a plugin like this directly in sketchup in the current or in the future releases...

      Hi cuttingedge, hi folks.

See this SU file for ideas if you want to practice with SU's native tools.

Thanks Johnny, Yes its one way to do it. But I think, by far the most practical way ( if no single tool available) is native offset and TIG's split donut. Anyways, I just learnt that split donut work on multiple selections. So I would offset everything and split the surfaces in one shot.

use extrude edges by offset from tig extrusion tools.. choose the option wich keeps the inner segments et voila.. i use it a lot to do exactly what you say here..

I dont know exactly how you do it? Tried extrude edges by offset but doesnt work with closed edges. Gives me unpredictable and messy result with fairly simple geometry.

I need this very often and for me splitdonut and splitsausage works well because I can decide wheter I need the subdivision or not.
Alternatively you can move the inner face a little bit up with forcing autofold and move it back afterwards, but this is also an extra step.

Yes that's how we do it normally but as you said we use this very
too often that one click could save us time, much so in finding the tiny floating toolbars like split tools. πŸ˜‰ It is very common in other 3d aps so I thought it should not be too complicated(but i may be wrong)

It would be good if it function like the native (only with the splits)where you can drag or input value and wont execute till you hit enter.

Thanks for your quick reply Chris. Here's what I mean. It is called inset in 3dsmax I believe.

      offset-with-split or inset

    • Offset and split?

Following TIG's Christmas gift which is the smart offset which is great, Have I been missing something or is it one duh moment for me?

Is there such plugin to offset a surface and will automatically divide it into quads. I know there is a split donut or split sausage to do that after offset operation. but I wonder if there is one that does that in one shot (which is quite common in other 3d apps)

A Look can be design registered, or trademarked as can colours, scents, sounds!

Agree on that.People would kill for copying chicken recipes too. As a designer, you know when you are being copied.

Always, always, I will side with the original.. copycats always try to do things better because they have the original as the base.

Matter of principle.. but not very important to end users really.

Great work.. I love the floor and the ceiling. Looks so natural, not flat like how I usually do it. Lighting is perfect. The only 2 things which would
rather not look real is the curtain nearest to the camera, and 2nd the throw pillows. Otherwise all models seem to be good enough for a perfect render.

    • RE: How to model this?

There are several ways to do it but I say, curviloft is the easiest i could think of. You may want to start with the ribs. Draw them up with good number of sides, no less than 30 sides per curve to make it smooth. select them and make the surface. Now extrude the ribs, add the details. This tool is so nice I've done lots with it!

    • VRAY LIGHT IN FRONT OF CAMERA PROBLEM

Recently, Im having problems with scene rendering just black. The culprit is the light in front of the camera. The light is set to invisible but i dont know why, it seems to be blocking everything else. If I remove it, it renders fine, but im lacking fill light in the front area. It's strange because Ive been doing this many times before with no issues. Now its causing this problem. I guess some bug.

    • RE: Strange,why cant I render more than 600 x 800??

Thank you sir for these tips. I managed to do the curtain with displacement, not quite succesfully in vray for SU but Vray for max. Using the same map, Max does it
quite fast too. Your chain curtain looks much more complicated. Mine is just ball chain. Thanks anyway.
