    • Strange,why cant I render more than 600 x 800??

I am rendering a model with metal chain curtain, Since it's almost impossible to do it in geometry, I made it with displacement map. The result is not that really great but would be acceptable. The only problem is whenever I render higher than 800 x 600, the buffer just appear black. sometimes with tiny dots but just freeze from there.

When I override materials, it renders fine to even high resolution. What could be the problem?

Can anyone please help. Im using Sketchup pro with vray for SU latest release.

    • RE: V-ray rendering problem

Yes, directly converting vray light to component will cause problem, I often just create a tiny line or a point (often the center point) with the vray light before i make them component. Once an instance then it can be grouped and converted to other components. Often, I experience a crash or not being able to start a render if I use maps larger than 1 MB, be it diffuse, reflection, opacity or most especially displacement maps. Other days, there are just problematic geometry that will cause the problem.Detecting which one is a pain especially for a large model. Most likely its from imported blocks.

    • RE: Recent Works Gallery :::::

HI honestly Im very much impressed how realistic a render can get..I have one question, Can anything as awesome be done without the intervention of Max. That expensive platform that many use only to stage a 3rd party renderer?

Fredo, We applaud your passion in perfecting tools to keep Sketchup afloat in the competition of 3d modelling softwares. Such a wonderful plugin indeed.

Will this whole transfer halt all developments of paid plugins like Vray, Podium? I've been anticipating Vray for so long, now looks like its gonna freeze...

excellent lighting. add just a little more clutter (accesories) placed artistically and it will be mistaken for a real photo. This excellent works of yours is giving me 2nd thoughts on my vray.

    • RE: Way to make grooves or reveals?

I worked on joinery company and most of the time offset or copying lines can outline the groove. and do a joint-push pull all at the same time.

Once one groove is outlined, copy or array to as many as required. quick select by doing a crossing in parallel front or side view. then joint push-pull to give it a uniform recess.

this works with curved faces as well.

    • RE: Quads and SketchUp-Best methods?

In my industry, we work on interior design and what’s really important is make impressions. It could mean then that , the hidden things could just be ignored , like the mesh of an object. Most of the time, good rendering and even Photoshop touchups can do the job. We close the deal. We’re happy.

Just when I thought we have all the tools available in Sketchup to create things. I ended up getting envy at the kind of models quad modelers produce.

As we gain experience in modeling, the itch to come up with “clean mesh” couldn’t just go away. That’s why after 4 years of doing Sketchup, I had to come back to 3ds max for specialized modeling needs.
Any really experienced 3dsmax modeler would not compromise clean meshes which most of the time comes in quads.

3d max can also be messy sometimes, especially if you use boolean operations.

Sketchup is still best for doing architectural stuff and it will never be absent in any of my workflow, but the need for fine details and texturing like in furniture for example, a good clean mesh could save you a lot of headache.

Sometimes I hate myself for caring about meshes, But that’s what we tend to be become as we progress if we pursue this path.

    • RE: [Plugins] TIG-splitTOOLS

Hi TIG, been waiting for this tool, Its great that there's a tool to divide the face equally. I always thought this should have been native to sketchup. Im just wondering if you can include the option for "split vertical only" or "split "horizontal only" rather than if I type 4 for example , it divides the face 4x4. (not sure though if vertical or horizontal is the correct term as the face may not be along x,y or z)

Actually what Ive been looking for is something like "connect" in 3ds max, where it split the faces when you connect the selected edges in specified number (if youre familiar with it.)

The easiest is to copy one edge to the other and say “/4” if you wanna divide by four, but this is possible only with regular perpendicular quads similar to what you have suggested here:

      http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=27689&p=240018&hilit=+connect+tool+#p240018

Anyways, There may be a tool for this already that Im not fmiliar with. Thanks.

    • RE: A new home for SketchUp

      My thoughts on this transition.

Still a big question mark...why Google ever sell sketchup?.. I believe Sketchup’s being associated with Google made it big and popular. After all the developments in the recent years, with but a few inputs on their part which still resulted in a phenomenal growth of users, how could Google just abandon it?? Don’t they see the potential that we all did? …Are there not enough pro users to sustain it’s profitability? Later on, when they see buildings and important structures created thru this software, wouldn't they want the pride of getting associated with it. I guess not.Im not sure about Trimble.

I so love sketchup. I think its one of the best software and most indispensable tool there is in architectural field.

After criticizing sketchup a lot in the earlier release, I ended up a becoming sketchup addict. Although I must admit, sketchup (the generic) doesn’t measure up with recent developments of its counterparts. The slow performance and inability to handle high poly models is just becoming frustrating. But hey, I still stick with it…(hoping it improves)

Ive built a lot with sketchup and will continue to do so.

Hope Trimble keep it free, keep it open-source, and address the clamor for a speedier sketchup. Then they stay in the game.

Hope this forum remains. 😐 I love the culture of generosity in here (esp the script writers) Ive gain a lot by just reading thru the posts.
