In fact, if you save your file in which you created the table on layer "dining room", the model file itself will become a component in which your table (still sitting on the layer "dining room") will be wrapped. You can always import this file as a master component into your model.

Gaieus and remus, Thanks for responding! I found the problem to be my newbie failure to recognize the importance of Groups and Componets and to use them.

For an image that should not be repeating, follow the instructions in the description field of this Warehouse model. Also, you can use a nifty plugin called "UV Tools" by Whaat. It can UV map a texture both cylindrically or spherically.

Gaieus, pbacot, You guys are great! Hope your holiday is going good and lots of stuff to play with. Gotta confess, after I posted my question it dawned on me about the "scale" tool. And I figured out about the different ways to use it..... good stuff. Feel bad about asking, but at the time I was lost. Only drawback is if I resize the "thing" none of my "scenes" of the "thing" change to the new size..... It's not a problem because making several new dimension scenes is easier than resizing each component or a complete re-draw. I'm back cranking down the road.......... pbacot,,,,,, I like the "tape" tool and will play with the site you sent. Thank again to both of you,, Later Mike

OK, not sure what I did. However, I have been trying to learn how to make DC components. Sketchup was shutting down every time I tried to scale the Google fence DC component, and I thought because I had some how changed the formula in the picket section this was causing the problem. However I now see that was not the case. I went to purge all components in the model. Sketchup flashed an on screen error message and shut down. The message was to fast these old eyes, so I don’t know what the error was. So I started Sketchup again and while I was working I was using a components directory call rigging, and when I wanted to go to another component directory I notice that all of my components directories, even the directory called rigging had been erases on the hard drive. The component directory was empty. Note, using Vista, which I do not trust. I have back up on back up. However, I could still get the recent component directory open, and pick a rigging components. Now, where are they being stored? Sketchup was now stopping when I did any scaling on any rigging component. So I did a repair install. But still having the problem of Sketchup shutting down. Can’t seem to be able to get rid of the recent directory of rigging components. They don’t show up in the Sketchup 7 directory. Found out that Ver 7 was using Ver 6’s rigging component directory. Renamed the directory and it stopped showing up in recent used section. So now, everytime I purge Sang, Sketchup stops. Also, I don’t remember that the component directory had to get online to Google to down load the basic set of components. As I remember, once they were downloaded, they stayed on your computer. Not now, I have to down load again and again the basic components from Google. I pass this along, because if you don’t have your components backed up, they may disappear. If I can’t get this resolved soon I will need to go back to Ver 6 to finish this project. Any help would be appreciated. Ken

I am sure they know that for a long time. The interview of John Bacus is off course a sales talk. He would never admit that the polycount thing indeed is an issue. The thing is that it will probably take a lot of effort to fix it, and it would not be so visible to a lot of people. But it is in their intrest to start working on it. The people that use Sketchup on a daily basis in their jobs, like me, will feel a hugh difference.

@squirrel said: Okay i was wondering when i make a house how do i go inside it and decorate it because when i go to put furniture in it i cant see in side the house to kno where to put it You can also use section planes to temporarily hide some of your model. @hazza said: You just need practice, I use the middle button to do my rotating. Hazza, I think Squirrel does not mean "Orbiting" [image: cam-ToolOrbitLarge.png] but "Rotating" Squirrel, the best would be to group your geometry (all that logically belongs together) and rotate it that way. This also goes for the "Move" tool

Nothing to do with being a moron... These display issues often happen with SU. Try to fiddle around with your OpenGL settings at Window > Preferences and see if unchecking any of the options help.

Be aware of and very careful about georeferencing in SU 7. Whenever it is turned on and you take a GE snapshot, it won't be overridden by the snapshot and you may end up with it miles away from the SU origin and with a floating model upon GE export. Have a look at the attached image; At the bottom left there is the "Georeferencing" button. It should read as "Off" when you are modeling far away from your default or custom location. The safest would be to save your default template with georeferencing turned off. [image: aY7A_ScreenShot003.jpg]

I don't have access to v7 right now - it's safest to upload v6 or lower... To form volumes the slices need to make edges that form a loop that can face. If you have a box with an open top it will slice in the Z because each cut takes in 4 sides and makes a loop that forms a face. If the slices are done on another axis then you'll only cut through 3 sides and these 3 edges don't make a loop and therefore won't face, and therefore don't make a sliceable volume. To fix it give the box a'lid' and it'll then slice OK on any axis. .
