Components and Layers

Is it possible to create a component that is attached to a particular layer.
For example if I create a component of a table, and it is on a layer called 'diningroom', when the model is saved as a component can the layer 'diningroom' be included so that if it is placed in furture scenes and the layer 'diningroom' does not exist in the scene, it is created and the model attached to it?
Wishful thinking ???

No, that is possible right now. Make a component. Then move it to the layer you want. Then wrap it in another component. Then save it like a component. Then open a clean model and lost it in. It should make the layer for you and the inner component will be on it correctly.
Look at the trees that come with SU in the landscape pack. Here is the 3dwarehouse link:

It has layers built in that let you control visibilty for the age of the tree and plan view of perspective view. So check that model for some help in understanding how they accomplish it if needed. Hope that helps,

In fact, if you save your file in which you created the table on layer "dining room", the model file itself will become a component in which your table (still sitting on the layer "dining room") will be wrapped. You can always import this file as a master component into your model.
