Wow! These two models are great... But too expensive for me. Thanks anyway.

But you can directly upload a kmz file to the WareHouse from its front page (somewhere top right). True that the skp file won't upload with it.

A great idea, but as a word of warning, if you need to use a lot of these, the polycount of your model will grow quite fast, so in most cases I would recommend using textures, with or without alpha transparency. Of course, this one casts very beautiful shadows... Anssi

Hi folks. Up to SU 5, selected entities where yellow by default. With SU 6 and 7 they are blue by default. In both case, yhey can be chaged to what you want by going to the Styles window. Select the small house icon to select the style in your model. Then click on the Edit tab and then choose the last icon on the right whose title is "Modeling settings". You will see six settings with small colored squares deside each one. Selected shall have a blue square. Click on it and then change it using whatever mean you like (color wheel, RGB values or whatever). If you use RGB (Red, Green, Blue), use red=255, green=255 and blue=0 to get pure yellow. When done, update the style and, if you want this choice to be more permanent, save the file as a template and point SU to it in the Preferences windows. Don't fear of breaking anything since you can have as many templates as you wish and that you can come back to blue or anything else if you want. I prefer yellow since I cannot confuse it with blue edges if I use edges displayed using axes colors. But this is a personal choice. Just ideas.

Hi Blai, Sang is a simple, 2D, so called "face me" component. If you delete it from your model (and also "Purge" it) and replace it with anything (let it be another face me component or a 3D one - even a car or a bush), you can save this file as a template under the File menu. Then go to Window > Preferences > Templates, you can choose your newly created template to load any time you start SU.

neng83, thnx for the example but i want to do it with a ruby script. i found a short example that suggests to draw a polygon, add it to a group, draw the rectangular hole, add it to the same group, execute the erase_enties command on the group with the hole and then explode the group. that seems to work! that also works if you want to make more than 1 hole in a polygon.

@gaieus said: I think that bath tub with the glass siding would be too sexy for my taste but nice, true. Ya, but think about the ham you could press against that side piece... I agree with Mike and Solo...keep the colors as neutral as you can..just splash a little color as an accent or to key in accesories..unless you never plan on moving....

Actually, both. In the new SU 7 templates they put both in. If you want to get rid of them ultimately, make your style (and any other) setting (you may be interested in the Window > Model info dialog, too) and save it as a custom template under the File menu (new to SU 7). Then go to Window > Preferences > Templates and choose your newly created template for the future.

@tig said: Also look for the Proximity ruby ... From what I saw of MatrixProximity (http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/MatrixProximityGuide.pdf), you provide a set of components (say, "tree+", "tree~" and "tree-") which range in level of detail, then the script places them according to distance from the scene. Do you know of any method or script that would assist you in making those components? In other words how to simplify (or remove details from) a component? Say you have a highly detailed Dorian column, and one setting would return a cylinder, while a stronger setting would return a cube (similar to a bounding box). Thanks

Gaieus was right, I have came across same problem before. I was create a surface and painted it with translucent material and realize that I need to divided them up and create a frame around it. Once I did all that I notice that when I orbit around those surface on the frame I create by drawing a line to divided the original face wasn't look solid. It took me a while to figure it out. Great work guys lot helpful information here. neng83

@solo said: Adam You got me thinking, I can make these vegetation .png's as top view or normal face-me view, if I group the two components as say.... Boxwood hedge_FM and Boxwood hedge_TV (FM=face me and TV=top view)in a folder per species then your method of puting the TV (top views) on a seperate layer would work well as the top view image will be the actual plant that the front view is. I will play around with this next week when I return from New England. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Please keep us informed.

I'd like the shorter part to become the lead.. Now it is satisfactory: [image: 1100285_removing_the_piece.jpg] The 1st question is how does one re-adjust the axes. The 2nd question refers to the circle object. I'd like to move the indicated part. Tnx

No, unfortunately, if I try to rename the .skm file in the application support library location, it reverts to its original name on reopening SU, as well as to the original material properties. If I rename the material in the edit field in SU, it retains the new name, but not the edited properties on reopening.

I keep getting a bugsplat everytime I try to edit a model. I even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it.. Is there a way other to fix it? ~Oh, also in top view "By pressing the top view icon" the model cannot be selected when I click on it.. But when I rotate it a little bit -it can be selected.. Is there a way to fix it? It also happens in the side, front & back view.

What kind of objects were used to make the AutoCad model? Was it made in AutoCad Architecture? (formerly Architectural Desktop) In that case it has to be "exploded" before importing it. It is done by using the Export to AutoCad function from inside a 3D window (using a plan view generates a 2D plan). Or, if your application has it, use the "AECOBJEXPLODE" command. When importing, use the "Merge coplanar faces" option in SU to avoid triangulation, and be sure you have the correct import units. Anssi

Well,it needed a little cleanup afterwards (as often does - in this case I think also due to the very sharp offset) but here it is. You can select the road face and move it up/down to exactly fit your needs. base_model_test.skp
