It's also mentioned in the help center article Gilles linked to - only quite small print at the bottom...

Hi Gilles, I live in France but I am English. And I haven't joined the French sub-forum, as it's much easier for me to communicate in English. But I did try to reply (in not too perfect French) to a question recently!! Thanks for your help with my issue. Merci mon p'tit loup!

Thanks. An extra step is not a problem at all. I can make most changes on jpg and make the transparent cuts last.

Thanks, I finally got it to work (and Cotty's second suggestion worked for me, too). I am just wondering why I can't rotate it and have 360 show up like in the video.

I'm getting close to the solution here. I think I can figure this out using the SUNELEVATION, SUNANGLE, and LATITUDE functions (I'll have to dust off my spherical geometry and celestial navigation skills). I do have one follow-on question: How do you get a dynamic component to continually update based on changes in the model? In other words, how do I get SUNANGLE to update if I change the Time of Day in the Shadows menu? Thanks for your help! Frank.

Thanks for posting this ... this morning my Win 7 64 machine (Lenovo T400 with ATI graphics) refused load SU 8 without Bugsplatting within seconds. I have win Update set to manual and may have updated something like a Defender file late last night, but nothing major. GOOD NEWS - removing LIBFREDO6_Dir_47 has stopped the crashing. I had already tried removing TT stuff (started there because of the .dll objections posed by Online Armour, not because of any doubts about TT, or Fredo, both of whom I hold in awe for their excellent plugins) and was working my way through when I saw this post. So ... Thank you, again <edit> SU 8.0.16846 Checked update logs ... updated Defender definition KB915597 2days ago (22 Mar) but didn't restart from off until this morning, Next most recent Cumulative security updates KB2809289 and KB2807986 (as mentioned by OP) plus a number of others (Silverlight, MSRT, defimition updates etc.) on 14-Mar but I have restarted numerous times since & using SU each session. </edit>

@box said: You need to rethink your modelling workflow. If the rest of your engine is built the same way your model will be so bloated as to be unworkable and unprintable. You have used 360 segments in a circle that is meant to be 3.3mm that isn't going to work. A default circle is 24 segments, 50 is pretty damn smooth, 100 is overkill, 360........... Anyway, the segment count is creating your tiny face issue and the huge files size. You need to work out how you want to 3d print this and the tolerances involved with the specific printing method. Work with fewer segments, work with all geometry on layer0 and move groups to layers for visibility not construction. Always keep layer0 as the active layer. When you look in the entity window of an unopen group it can say Layer63, but when you click into the group and look at the raw geometry it needs to say Layer0. That's all I have time to write just now. Thank you "Gilles" and "Box" for your advices. I will work on it and report here about my results.

Well, to-date the news only is that the 3D Warehouse route to populate GE with 3D models on the public 3D Layer will be closed. There has not been any info about the software (either SU or GE) being crippled and geolocation or displaying models removed. You can even keep uploading models to the 3D Warehouse, even make them not public and share only with clients who can download the models and watch them on GE. That is; for the time being. I am not sure what will come in the future and I guess no-one can predict.

@krisidious said: You're probably going to have to be a little more specific. from what i could gather, it's using dynamic components as a means of reporting volume and area (lenX*lenY type of stuff..) seems it would only work on rectangles / cubes ... also seems like entity info is a better choice (unless there's something happening via the generate report action near the end of the video which i'm not seeing)..

@chris fullmer said: Wow, looks great! so when i use shape bender i get the grid after pressing both the straight line and curved line but when i press enter it just moves my object randomly on the screen. It does not bend the object to the path. Thoughts?

To recap... A SKM file is a Sketchup Material definition file. A SKM file is a ZIP archive that just has a different file-extension. Changing its extension to ZIP allows you to see what it contains - but the only thing you might be interested in is the res/Image file, which is there if the Material has a Texture; the rest of the contents are things like the Material's thumbnail used in the Browser and XML files that contain the Material's data - like Image/Size [if any], RGB, Opacity etc... Placing a SKM file [unchanged] into a subfolder that is within the Materials folder [or any other folder that is in the Material Browser's search paths...] allows the Material that it defines to be displayed in the Materials Browser when that subfolder is chosen [like any other Material]; when applied to objects in the model that Material is added to the Model's internal Materials collection. If you modify or newly create some Materials in a Model, then the Material Browser's pop-out/context menu options allow you to Save the Material[s] to external SKM files [as a 'collection' etc]: this allows you to 'make' a custom Material in a Model, then make a SKM version of it that is reusable in any other Model later on... You do not need to 'open' a SKM file, just put it in a subfolder that the Materials Browser can see and it's automatically displayed - like any other Material...

You can put section planes in a group. Then it will only cut through the object in the group or component and not the whole model.

Don't worry - Jim has encrypted it as an rbs anyway, making changing it academic - you can't. If you were to PM Jim perhaps he'll explain these things better ?

@tig said: 'Flattery' works on PC [and probably MAC]. Are you extracting/installing it properly ? It is an Extension and needs activating etc ? Also look at:- Jim's simple "jf_UnfoldTool.rb" http://sketchuptips.blogspot.com/2007/08/plugin-unfoldrb.html and MattC's "AutoUnfold.rb" http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&p=342121#p342110 There's also the similar "unfoldtool.rb" by anon, that I have but can't remember where from... The error was something to do with "encryption", I just reinstalled it, clicked "OK" a bunch of times and it seems to be fine Thanks for replying as I'd probably have given up on it otherwise.

PipeDraft, Yes, it Bugsplats before I launch anything. In fact, it Bugsplats as soon as Sketchup opens and the toolbars show up. And no, I do not have any of the quarantined plugins installed. I will try it again later and report back. Thank You, Paul
