Textures On / Color Off

Try Jim's GreyscaleMode tool http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=88720#p88720
The first post links off to his site and the download...
I think that removes any 'color' and leaves just greyscale materials [keeping grey versions of their textures....] -
Thanks TIG,
It seems to work pretty well. Every time I add another texture though, I have to click Grey scale again though. Maybe I'm missing something. It's a good plugin though.Charley

I have been struggling with this problem. I had hoped you could save a bunch of materials in color and monochrome and just import to swap between them but sadly that did not work. For now I just edit each material in a copy of the model using the eyedropper to quickly change whatever color they are to the default background color. It takes a few minutes but works well. I'm hoping one of the ruby geniuses on this site will pick up the thread and make the magic happen. Here is an example of the results.

Doesn't Jim's GreyscaleMode tool do it for you ??

I assume there is a desire to be able to keep a color version. Otherwise for things like the elevation, making up a library of the white or grayscale materials you want would seem a solution. It seems like the material replacement is a long process to add to the SU-LO output which is long-winded as it is.
Of course, just for out put, you can always just turn your png/pdf grayscale when you're done. I wonder if any performance is saved in SU, using grayscale.

Linked from here http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=88720#p88720Just downloaded and tried Jim's Greyscale and color saturation is way to high. Maybe we can get Jim to write it soit goes to 256,256,256.

If I recall rightly Jim has used industry standard algorithms to set the grays right from the RGB - e.g. Red is too dark if processed like Green... etc... -
Jim did write it to use a standard but you could edit it to make the values lower if you want.

This is where I admit I know nothing about writing ruby scripts.
-
Don't worry - Jim has encrypted it as an rbs anyway, making changing it academic - you can't.
If you were to PM Jim perhaps he'll explain these things better ?
