Install two extension. 1 = 1001 points 2 = CLF Vertical Line tool Use 1001 points to divide edge by a given length. It will place a construction point at those division. Then, use CLF line tool and define line height and pick the construction points as you go around. This is the fastest I could do it. 1 floor took about 5 minutes. Not bad.

Hi Dave, They were never there? I just added mine as favorites from my D:drive. from my older version of Sketchup. Even if I copy that folder to the User/AppData...folder it still does the same. Glyn

Yep, I use inferencing a lot. Do not use the locking mechanism other than moving though. Will practice it more though. I appreciate your information though. I promise I will use it more often.

I think the best way would be to double click the component several times until you have selected the faces you want to paint. With this you have been able to edit the component. That is the context you want to apply the new material, applying it to the faces inside the component instead painting the component. The difference is that when you paint a component, only the faces that inside the component AND have no material assigned, receive the new material. All faces inside the component that have a material directly assigned, will ignore the component's material as box described.

Without seeing your code, this is just a guess, but I suspect that you are falling victim to the fact that all coordinates in SketchUp are internally represented as inches, regardless of the visible units you have set for the model. So, 1000mm=39.37inches. Apply #to_i and you get 39 inches = 990.6mm.

Because you are incorporating complex 3d geometry into the form then the suggested 3d-gives-true-circles in a CAD file export etc is of no use - it's only useful if the geometry is 'flat' - e.g. for 2d CNC cutting... Sorry to beat this dead horse but I am still trying to establish a go forward plan. 1: Is there another CAD program that could smooth Sketchup 3-D shapes for use with a CNC? 2: I have not used any other CAD programs so if Sketchup can not provide what I want what are some easily learned CAD programs that will provide a smooth complex 3-D surface? I've had this issue too. I can't recall how or if we fixed it. I'll check back (its a couple of years ago). In the mean time, if you discover an answer, I'd be very pleased to know also.

Ah, I see. I guess my lack of sleep has caught up with me.

The lines dont show in shaded mode because I unmarked lines in view mode. "Anyway I think the last picture is just an "optical" artifact. The profile edges on a curved shape should not be affected" When I exported the hidden line model to Illustrator the lines were cut just like in the screendump. "if you intersected faces as you said, you should see the edge where the top of the knob intersects the shaft all around" Yes, I did that and the top line showed, like intended.
