I assume you are using Save_As on a DC, or exporting your DCs as part of a Collection. The SKP file[s] that results might appear like a normal 'Component', but if you then add it to a Model it will display the DC attributes/properties you gave it when you made/saved it. The various 'dynamic_attributes' which you gave it within its 'cradle' Model, are saved with the external SKP itself, when you do the Save_as etc... So when you upload a DC SKP it should retain its special abilities as attributes attached to its own model. When you download a DC it still has those abilities saved within it, but they do not display if you simply open that downloaded SKP - they only manifest themselves when you insert that DC into another Model... It is a Dynamic Componentafter all... the clue is in the name...

That depends on the object, but in it's most rudimentary form, simply select a face and move it. [image: 2uMh_Skew.gif]

TIG, Every suggestion you have made works perfectly; the issue was actually with my system. I am running OSX and it turns out that when smart quotes are enabled sketchup does not recognise " as a valid symbol. I discovered this when I copied and pasted code I found online it worked but when I retyped it, symbol for symbol, it did not. Very weird In order to fix this I needed to do the following: System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Text -> uncheck "Use smart quotes and dashes" This is something that I am sure trips up many OSX users and should probably be looked at by Sketchup. Thanks again for all your help. Brad

@JQL In my case I would prefer to minimize the amount of edges as I'm importing the model into some other software that displays funny when theres many edges. Also wouldn't triangulation require some sort of plugin? If this is built into Sketchup were would I find it? Thanks

@jim4366 said: Very good, thank you so much. I run into this exact situation all the time converting imported .stl files. Circles usually come in broken with hundreds of segments. Now hoping it's not too much to ask, but would it be possible that, having the center point, could those segments that made up the circle be deleted and replaced with a real sketchup circle? In one swoop? Just a standard 24 segment circle would be fine. A circle un-exploder? Modified code m=Sketchup.active_model;e=m.entities;s=m.selection;s.grep(Sketchup;;Face).each{|f|p=f.bounds.center;e.add_cpoint(p);n=f.normal;r=p.distance(f.vertices[0].position);e.erase_entities(f.edges);e.add_circle(p,n,r)} Or,copy attached plugin to Plugins folder. You will need to supply your own icons for the toolbar created. Remake Circle.rb

The DCs appear to be based on a spreadsheet. The cells can be referenced as in excel by clicking on a different cell after =, or inside a formula. So a reasonable knowledge of formula calculation in excel helps. There are articles in the Sketchup knowledge center in the help http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/114561 A good understanding of groups, components, box boundary and scaling is required, generally its best to inspect other DCs to get ideas As with coding start simple and then add on. I am hoping there will be much need improvement with the next release (soon) otherwise one will need to create ruby scripts to manipulate and simplify the DC process I updated the block DC, swap some elements to component as group seems to be unstable in copies (another point to add to Dave's growing list why he prefers components over groups), see attached file, the pier and corner created from the basic unit. To go in the other direction, one or more block units can be rotate & attached and if required grouped. After scaling, one can change the bond if require at the unit level You will soon notice the lag and file sizes plus the need for purging (window/model info/statistics and purge unused button) This is why simple walls with material painted on is better. However, there are some processes (exploding, outer shelling) that can be done to rectify the lag and memory usage...to much really to do manually, but really waiting until after the next release before committing my time to such an adventure in Ruby pier.skp

@ggunn said: ...... I go to tools > axes and align the red axis with the roof edge. Then I right click on an axis outside the geolocation image and select Align View. It flips the whole model upside down and looks at it from the bottom......... If you redraw the axes you not only need to redirect the red axis, you also need to tell SketchUp where green needs to go. You skipped doing so and now blue points down. When you right click on an axis in empty space and select 'Align View' green wiil always be pointing up on your screen. red to the right and blue towards you (perpendicular to the screen and out). This means that you look at your model from underneath. Pay more attention when redrawing the axes to not only draw red but also green.

I ran into the same problem after upgrading to Win 10. It took me a while to figure out what was happening. I don't recall permissions ever being any problem before when it comes to Materials.

Yes, it must have been the Mac color wheel. Pity it is not that big on the PC. As I like to eyeball the colors I find the RGB sliders not very intuitive for choosing colors. Maybe I'll pick colors in PS and type the RGB values into SU.

I often try to use Extrude Edges by Vector before other tools. This should have been a standard SU tool. It's push-pull for edges.

Please clarify what you mean: a hierarchy of what? One possible answer is to nest Groups or Components inside each other (which creates a "contained in" or "part of" hierarchy). Is that what you mean?

This happens a lot, with files that are on either of my internal drives, my 500GB SSD or my 1TB HD. The current file I'm having problems with is 58MB.
