It really depends on the surface and texture--and the desired result. Some patterns are fine on a cylinder (for example) just as they are--off the paint bucket, others will need projection, especially for surfaces with irregular faces. Other results are only achievable with plugins to get UV mapping that realistically follows the surface.

@jason_vdb said: Hi anyone, I have a series of surfaces that I have sliced up and I would like to map these to an organized distributed orthagonal 'plan view' so I can get them into CAD to these profiles to a CNC machine. I have only the knowledge to do this manually. It takes a long time and I'd love to know if there are any plugins or scripts people have made to automate this. Attached is an example of the profiles I have in space that I want organised. I know Rhino can do this, and I'm sure other applications can do this and even nest them. Any advice would be great. keywords: automate map to 2D flatten send to working plane 3D to orthographic projection 3D to CNC nest Do you want the profiles moved or copied to the XY plane? How do you want them laid out? Your model doesn't show what you want to happen.

@dou said: I use skt.2015 pro and in the left end of the opening welcome there is a box to disable or enable this option. I notice that you have a sketchup make version and there is no box! That is one minor difference between Pro and Make.

I've been putting them on individual layers. Works well, especially with Tig's Section Cut Face Plugin.

For a beginner, the export option is a bit hidden. Go to your material browser, right click and choose export texture [image: VsLL_export.jpg]

For the benefit of others who may come across this topic: WIndows update has been quietly bundling the plays.tv app along with an update to the drivers for AMD graphics (most likely AMD initiated this, as plays.tv is a project they co-sponsor with Raptr). This app causes graphics conflicts that crash SketchUp. Uninstalling Play TV has cured the problem for many people.

LOL!!!!! I really would like to know who is giving a thumbs down on my comment. What's your problem?!? So do you think it is totally normal that such bugs are not being fixed anymore these days? One of the most basic "features" of a software that used to work perfectly fine over the last years? LOL... this world is really screwed up.
