CPU or GPU for viewport performance?

      Hi.

IDK if this is the right place to ask these questions, but here it goes.

I use v.2016 with VRay, and I got to the point when I have to upgrade my PC.

I have an AMD A10-5800k CPU with 8gb ram and a Geforce 750ti OC 2gb (I added the discrete GPU later, and saw big improvements in viewport performance)

Now I'm gonna build a new PC, with an i7 CPU and 16/32gb DDR4, because I'm getting viewport slowdowns and going into wireframe mode when orbiting -- in models bigger than 10mb...

My question is: will that CPU upgrade be enough with my current 750ti?
or would I be better off buying a cheaper CPU, so that I can add a new graphics card?

Cause I read somewhere that the difference in viewport performance, from high end graphic cards to the more modest ones (like my 750ti) isn't noticable at all...

And my budget is limited, so I have to make choices...

It very much depends on what you're using the machine for and how heavy your SketchUp models are.

I would suggest to rather get at higher clocked i5 CPU (as high as you can afford), 16GB of RAM at first, keeping slots open to upgrade to 32GB if needed, a GFX card with more RAM will work better if you do heavy models and/or intend to do rendering, a good/fast main (OS / programs) drive is also important. I'd say keep the 750ti for now and see how it goes.

Save the Earth, it's the only planet with chocolate.

          Thanks for the reply

I'm going i7 because I do a lot of rendering and I need the hyper-threading.
And yes, I use a fast SSD drive also.

But my question is more about the graphics card, and it´s only about viewport performance.

          Will I see a huge improvement from my 750ti 2gb to a, let's say, Geforce 970 4gb?

"a huge improvement" probably not but wait for the new GTX 1060 available next week anyhow, roughly on par with a GTX 980 for a list price of ~280 bucks.
