I have the same problem too, usually when the model becomes heavy.
What I do is to click OK and render again and usually it starts render with no problem, and if it freezes the SU the just restart it.

That bug is a pain in the ass.

    Oh,

I'm running sketchup 8 not 7.1 on a Quad Core Q6600 with 4gb RAM and a geforce 8600GT. Although it isn't a great machine it should work out fine with a 40Mb model.. ❓

Yup, that's another option too. I have the old subdivide and smooth plugin, and will likely upgrade to artisan when I start playing with SketchUp some more. Right now I'm in Rhino mode though, so I believe this was the first time I've used the subdivide and smooth plugin since 1.49.01 of VfS was released. That test sphere took a lot longer to make than it should have. I'm getting rusty πŸ˜‰

    right. and learn Max... 🀒
There's also Modo, Cinema4D, Maya, etc.
Definitely depends on how much animation you're doing whether it's worth putting up with vfsu.
Also, note that vfsu is limited with animating objects between scenes (as in you can't)
In terms of setting up an animation, you can pre-calculate the light cache and the irradiance map. Here's the link to the tutorial I used. http://vray.us/vray_tutorials/vray_tutorial_irradiance_map2.shtml

you can also do pack material in the new Vray 1.49.01. it will be saved as zip file. if you want to share it or save it into another computer with texture on the folder.

By the way the reflection layer can be saved also as seperate channel. then use it in photoshop. so based on the above workflow, what you can do is to just add reflection/

ANother workflow will be this is to add another diffuse color to all your maps (a bit time consuming). This would be your clay color. If you add a new diffuse layer, vray will call it "diffuse1" and it will be place under the original diffuse layer. Now in order to show this color and at the same time retain the UV of the bump and displacement map, you need to put an "A color"(white) to the transparency slot of every original diffuse layers. The reflection and all the layers will still be there. the only thing is all the color that is showing up is your clay color which you used for all your diffuse layers. again a bit time consuming but will achieve what you want. but if you are looking for shortcuts. i dont think there is/

You mean whole the work?it's my design too, so it was kind of"wasting" time on planning decisions or you mean render production?Let's say 35-40 hours all together - planning, modelling, textures mapping, render testing and render production+ Photoshop

    Hi Andy)
it's chaos from Chaos Vray for Su forum, here i have a different nick...i have solved this problem,it's strange, when i was hiding glass material,i could see my landscape image, but the problem was not in glass component or glass material, the problem was that landscape image was layered on back face of arc surface,it wasn't facing out, when i paint my image on front face - everything is get okay)))))just 6-7 hours of wondering, trying, asking were spent, but now i know where the source of that was

I agree with Andy. If you load the defaults, you should get a fairly decent rendering using the SU sun.

I second what Solo said. Composing the view beautifully is half of the rendering process. Also look at Arrowway for a brick material that has a bump and specular map.
