BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Peter, You need to add the section plane INSIDE the car_A component. Oriented to the front. INSIDE car_B component you place a second section plane facing to the rear end of the car. Both section planes can be active at the same time for they are in different components. The rest is up to you. Wo3Dan p.s. Toggle off "Display Section Planes" and have "Display Section Cuts" ON

Fifo & Jim. Both your suggestions were very helpful regarding moving objects on the slanted surface. I was able to rotate the axis as well as slide it along the surface. Sliding didn't seem to work when I was using the Xray mode so I could see the hidden structure but with Xray turned off, did the job along with using construction lines for accuracy. Thank you all.

Yeah, as soon as I finished posting those pictures I remembered why it was doing that and I also went and got Subdivide and Smooth and figured the whole thing out...for now. The next big hurdle will be the body of the truck. Tons of detail and many different angles. Thanks for the help everyone. It is appreciated. Talk to you all soon.

300,000+ rotterdam images found here: http://www.flickr.com/search/?ss=2&w=all&q=rotterdam&m=text watch out though.. only about .5% are going to help you out so you might get bored very quickly.

Thank you for the reply. Although the simple test does not recreate the situation. In simple situation it works (that's why I used this method to extract points of interest positions from a model). In any case, I gave up on this approach not just due to technical aspects, but as conceptually not appropriated in my case.

You should try to update your graphic card drivers if you can.

I've actually exploded circles many times just because I wanted non-smoothed edges. This will be handy. Suppose it's one for the "doh" thread.

GOOD NEWS! I checked the next evolution of the Xubuntu distro and found it incorporated the newest Intel drivers for my integrated 945 video chipset. So, I did an online update of my installed Xubuntu 8.10 to Jaunty Jackelope 9.04 Alpha 6 and ... The weird change of color issues are gone! The SU7 rendering screen shows normal colors, shadows and for all appearances is working normally! I still have to disable DRI in the xorg.conf file but again, I don't use any apps that need DRI anyway... The rest of the applications I have installed also seem to work as well... So, while I'm still going through the process of loading plugins (all of them that I've installed so far are working properly), I think the SU, Kerkythea and Xubuntu combo will be a success. Cheers!

Generally the big wite cursor issue is a graphics issue. Try changing the setting within SU to turn off hardware acceleration or something like that. You might also update your drivers if Mac's let you do that kind of stuff.

Coulter already found it, but I thought I'd put a link here for anyone else interested. I have a pretty basic plugin found here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17507 which does this. It scales either uniformly or randomly within a specified min/max tolarnce. And the user specifies if the scale should happen from the center of the component, the compnent axis or the world [0,0,0] center. I'm also working on a "component base" option which will be the center of the bottom of the component (for people who do not accurately set the axis of their compnents). Chris

You don't want refractions. That only works for glass and transparent materials. As for reflections, there isn't a set rule for this . It all depends on the material you want to simulate. Got any specific example? Screenshots? In general, all materials got some kind of reflection, often it's a very glossy type. Adding a very glossy reflection can some times be enough to make it pop it little as it picks up a little bit more of the surrounding lights.
