BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@thomthom said: Open the Styles window, Go to the Watermark section (fourth button from the right, big OK on it) Insert watermarks/backgrounds Thanks Thomthom! I found it. More details for those who may run into this problem again: After opening the Styles Window, clicl the Edit tab. The Watermark button belongs to the Edit section.

Hi, Slench I´d say it´s pretty much the same procedure as with any other model - learning basic SU operations, watching video tutorials, finding a decent blueprint plus lots of reference photos ( but if you´re aiming for a low poly model, you probably won´t need many of them ) etc. This might give you a rough modeling idea http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5riz0_uzi-sur-google-sketchup_creation - no blueprints used , but anyway... About setting up blueprints in SU http://www.the-blueprints.com/tutorials/sketchup/ As for using your model in games like TF2, you might want to check this out http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SketchUp_Source_Tools Hope this helps.

Yeah, I think that's a good idea, also, you need to push in the windscreen, as it is, it's flush with the columns. Same with all the other windows and rear windsrceen. Other than that, Nice work so far!

@thomthom said: Styles with special edges like that takes much longer for SU to process. Shadows also adds a great amount of time. What you are best of doing is making your camera adjustments with a quick normal style and only toggle on your custom style when you are ready to export. Well, i already tried this ... but in some angles the problem still occurs Is it possible that the style i made myself is to "complex"? I could imagine that it takes more time to render a style thats build on many strokes... cu

If you have it set one way in your template it will be repeated in any new models made from that template, but if you change it in any model it's remembered in that model as a new setting. It is a very useful feature to toggle on/off as you work...

Bonnie responded to my voice message. She seems to have some email problems. I ordered these books (link below) looked them over and they look very very good for what I need and want to do. I would recommend these books to anyone that wants to get a little one started with SU which I think can be an excellant learning tool. Still interested in knowing about anything else out there that might be good to work with. I am excited, soon, wonder boy can teach me some stuff. http://www.3dvinci.net/ccp0-prodshow/MBB_PDF.html

No, I made a mistake. Undoing it all revealed I did scale my change, in spite of thinking I had surely, surely, surely learned that one. Beg pardon.

You can setup a layout file linked to multiple SketchUp files. Then when you have updated the files, you can re-render the images from Layout. You still have to set it up the first time, but then can re-use it as you update your SketchUp files.

Can anyone help with this? I really don't want to remove SketchuUp from our College image because of this but so far cannot find a work around.

Hi folks. Using the "Follow me" tool on this path that goes around and up and down will result in an unavoidable twisting of the facet. Using the "Follow and keep" plugin may help. Also, try to use an arc with as few segments as you can to minimise edges and face count. Three or four segments shall suffice to give a neat look. You may even try simply smoothing the edges at the interscetion of the two shapes to see if the "rounded" look may be sufficient. Just ideas.

I've been investigating this further and have found that the problem can be reliably reproduced. I have submitted this to the Google forum at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=6b0a0298daee1261&hl=en At the above link I have posted links to SU files that can reproduce the error, as well as a YouTube video showing the bug in action. The work-around in my case seems to be to ensure that the component is in "edit" before using Project Photo (when using match photo). Hope this helps some others

That's all you need to do; extract the files in the Plugins folder (make sure your XP OS does not create a "top level" folder for them; copy/move everything straight under the main plugins folder). After restarting SU, see if ShapeBender is enabled under Window > Preferences > Extensions. It also has a toolbar under View > Toolbars.
