Under the File > Import browser-window there should be a list of file types - find the one you want - say 'dae' - and it should then show up that file-type in the browser - there is also an options button once you get that far, depending on the file-type...

Also kmz/dae (collada) import is only possible in the latest (7.1) version released some time last Autumn/Fall.

It goes by file suffix, so if you have a .dae file in that folder it should list it ???
