Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@aadbuild said: Hey thanks Guys, I will get the dreaded 3d max sales person out to give me a run down. Australia needs some more Sketchupers, I tell every one I know how good it is but just cant seam to convince.... I think they think because its free it is not powerful? I have taught 2 people sketchup in my office and they love it and then they leave and start their own business. I know a few SU users in Perth. Infact, from what they tell me, SU is big in OZ Arch schools now. Even UWA arch course teaches students how to use them.

He posted the file to me. It was impossible to attach here as it is 9Mb+. To me, the intersection seems to be pretty smooth (regarding SketchUp1s nature to segmenting everything) but if really smooth results are needed, you need to make everything so detailed. The arch was made of really high segmented arcs, the dome way made of a really high segmented arc as the face to be lathed however the circle around which you lathed it is still the default 24 segmented circle. Such an intersection will always be somewhat segmented but if you are ready to sacrifice workability for smoothness and precision, you need to do it including all elements of the model. Either make the 'window' flat on the ground OR make it on a 'wall'. When you make the selected geometry into a component read the dialog and choose to make it glued/cutting as desired...

Thanks Chris. I have a lot of plug ins, though many I don't use, so this will give me a chance to clean up my plug ins. This is the last bit of information I needed to decide to upgrade to 8. Again, thanks.

FWIW, the SketchUp inspector window has always been displayed by default on my installations of LO. I believe the default is to have all of the inspector windows out on the right side although they can be closed.

@kenny said: Thanks for all the replies everyone. It would appear that at the moment I'll just have to put up with the slow performance. Whilst I could get a slightly higher spec it doesn't look like it would be worth it in terms of any meaningful performance improvement over my current set up. For the type of work I do Sketchup is still much faster and easier than any other 3D software but on large models the actual button clicking takes seconds whilst waiting for it to respond takes hours! It's very frustrating and throwing money at it in terms of equipment can't even address the problems. Hardware just doesn't seem to be able to keep up with how much we all push Sketchup. Or perhaps it's that Sketchup hasn't kept up with hardware in that it can't take advantage of the way hardware has gone with multi processors. Or a bit of both. Well Do what I do, have 2 to 4 SU sessions running and work on 4 different things. That way you are never waiting for Plugin X to complete a task Edit: Did I mention that I am a mild sufferer of ADD

ExtrudeEdgesbyFace has worked perfectly...... it took much longer to process the geometry than lattice maker but still 1 million times quicker than it would take to model the damn thing!! One minor hitch is that the timber battens on the axis don't rotate with the structure..... this is such a minor thing tho that is barely noticeable until you get really really close to the structure. So all in all i'm as pleased as punch - thank you very much for your time and patience gentlemen. Tig as soon as my next student loan arrives I will be sure to make a donation to you (that is a promise) because you have saved me ALOT of blood sweat and tears. Twilight can do that -- Neon lights: http://twilightrender.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1797&start=0 Animation in Twilight: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=306208#p306208 Or Kerkythea, which is free, can do that too(just not as easily): http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/index.php Vue can do neon lights and animations as well. Those are just a few renderers I am familiar with, but most others should be able to as well.

Of course the advantage of my 'Purge' as opposed to the 'Model Info' one is that you can select NOT to purge the layers...

Go to the material browser > In model folder and right click on your texture thumbnail. There will be an item in the context menu to "Export texture image". IFit is a seamlessly tiling material in SU already, you get the original image which you can use as the source image for your bump map. (And nowgo and ad your avatar.)

Its interesting to see these solutions in sketchup, but this kind of thing is so much easier in rhino where there are dedicated tools for these sort of transformations. For example, this took less than a minute in rhino using twist and fillet... Personally, i find rhino and sketchup to be an excellent combination - rhino can read and write sketchup files, so it is very easy to simply import things from rhino into your sketchup model. cheers rabbit [image: jwqr_twistampfillet.jpg]

I generally do not care with the exact depth of the stamp tool while stamping. When you are done, you can just select the stamped face and use the move tool to accurately position it to the desired height. Way easier than suffering with the stamp tool (that's only good to make the stamp outline and offset it in the surrounding TIN)

Thanks Mitcorb. Now added. (Note that it's the old, SU 6 Guide but there's simply no good description in the current manual and also whatever there is, it is hard to link to) Rich: what? Are you not forgetting things sometimes?
