BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

See what Alan means by this offset/scaling technique below. Here there is no offset but Ctrl+PushPull but the basic idea is the same; you create a series of connected contour lines which you can easily adjust with the Scale tool. Thank you so much for your answers, I notice that Fredo have recently implemented something like an "Update Observer" don't know how this work but it would be a great thing if it could scan every plugin installed. @unknownuser said: if you're a volunteer you could do it I was thinking of something like the big red button named Plugin Index

Thanks all for the help. I deleted the phantom group and all is well. No idea why it was there in the first place. Tig, thanks for explaining why some of my solids had problems. I previously stumbled upon the fact that I can have multiple separated solids within a group/comp and now I use that "feature" in places.

@tintin99 said: Did you find the solution ? Yes that was the solution. And I am very grateful for the help, however embarrassed. The gluing function made it impossible to put the objects side by side. They were put in the model on a face. I don't know if one moved once the face's layer was off. But that is the problem, without that layer on they cannot be put in the side by side position. Thanks to all, Peter

@gaieus said: You can also do special sharing in the 3D Warehouse but what I "smell" here is that Laucity doesn't want the studentsto play around with editing the stuff. I thought the same,so tried one of my docs by changing to public, no edit and then used link and signed in as non owner. I had the option to download which it did as a .htm file and by changing the extension to skip I could open and edit So much for hair brain ideas May thinking is Google Docs protection may depend on what file system is used. If NTFS is used maybe?? I can also download one of Cat's posting as a "regular" user ( no edit) , save, and then edit.

Thanks Tig, just needed a little lateral thinking. The workflow I was using was to create the walls with dline.rb, which obviously doesn't create the floor slab, I was then telling myself I needed to trace the room boundary. Using what you have suggested it is easy enough to open the wall group, redraw one of the inner edges of the wall to create the face that forms the floor. Select the face WITHOUT the boundary edges and edit>cut. If you select the face AND boundaries the edit>cut will destroy the original geometry. Close the wall group and then paste in place to create the floor which can then be pushpulled, grouped & layered as required.

I've been having troubles closing the files. Everytime I close one it hangs and says the program does not respond (I work in spanish so I don't know the equivalent in english). I'd say this started when I installed SU8 without deleting SU7. But I need them both!

Could you post a screenshot or something to see what it looks like? I always recommend exporting at a higher resolution. Perhaps try doubling the resolution (or even tripling) and reduce it afterwards. -Brodie

Hi Martin, I am a Podium user and I agree with Gaieus that you should look to the Podium forum for help. The issues you are experiencing sound render related not sketchup related. When you post your question at the Podium forum give as much info as possible ie podium version your using, preset used, image of render, etc. Also If you are new to podium, check out the lighting and other tutorials found at the Podium forum. Good luck, hope to see your post. http://supodiumforum.websitetoolbox.com/ Paul

If you slowly push through the wall you should get a tool tip that says "on face" when you get to the other side of the wall (if you can see into the opening), at which point release the mouse. Alternatively if you know the wall thickness (accurately) you can enter that in the VCB to create the opening. Tip: To create more openings in the same wall, hovver the pushpull tool over the required opening area so it highlights then double click - instant hole

That's true. However especially this texture scaling issue is the reason why one should not scale groups/components only just a little bit (so that the different instances do not differ too much from the definition itself). Just an example: I model everything in a bigger scale knowing that SU has issues with too small scales. Now if I use ten instances of the same component and at the end I scale everything back, the texture will get distorted on each so the scale definition command is useful in this case. In the above case, the model was already messed up (some parts with scaled while other parts with normal texture) so here it's almost all the same which method we choose, neither is really "clean" any more.
