    BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

    Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

    When reading this a thought came to my mind - how does SketchUp shadows work? Isn't it a graphic representation of the angle between sun and the face. And it is smooth. The same could be used in this case. Sorry if I am talking nonsense. I am not the TIG

    There is another way... I have forgotten ist because in earlier versions the thumbnail preview in Windows was on skp files not working... But with the newest one it works perfect! It is a Software I really recommend, it is 3dBrowser for 3d Users. Working without it is not to imagine once wou tried it out: http://www.mootools.com/plugins/us/browsercommon/index.aspx

    Actually, if you triple click to select all of the geometry inside the component and then apply the paint, you will paint the edges as well as the faces but of course that's because you've selected the edges along with the faces.

    Why not just select the whole handrail, right click and select soften edges and adjust them to an angle that is needed to soften the rail? Or is there a problem i don't see?

    Give your glass a real thickness. View it in Monochrome mode with a Style that uses a distinctive back_face color. If any back face looks outwards, select that face, and use the Reverse... context-menu tool. Now apply your 'stained-glass' textured-material to the faces as needed. You then need to ensure that this material is correctly configured and applied in the Podium Materials editor... Then try Podium again...

    Usually the autosaved file is stored where the original file is stored. You can search your disk for the "autosave" word. What I can say though is that sketchup 2014 kind of have a problem loading the autosaved file and it might have lost in the process..

    It is indeed a very odd thing. I removed the length-snapping in the Units setting to see if that helped etc, but the box will rotate/snap into place, BUT not perfectly as there is always a ~3mm 'overlap'... I suspect it's a tolerance thing. The project is quite large, and very small and very larger geometry will always have issues... Deleting the large surface below the stadium changes the overlap to only ~2mm ! You also have a couple of components ['Gruppe#nnn'] in the browser that seen to have no geometry in their thumbnail - perhaps their origin is miles from the geometry - which can cause weir clicking and snapping issues...

    Thanks very much Dan, That was it - I use a shortcut tool called Clavier and I'd set Alt P to do something specific, and I now see that with Clavier I can set limits on the extent of that system change.

LO generates a much better image quality than Rhino so sometimes I'll import my Rhino work to create perspective views out of LO.     Could you walk me through how to do that? Im new to these more advanced shapes. It was segmented a lot more and made it very difficult to do the extruding so I used a WELD plugin to take the segment out of the line......maybe that was a poor choice
