BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@jfraser83 said: Im wondering if there is a plugin/tool that allows me to extrude a contoured (non flat) face from a terrain. Currently I am using a line extrude command, then copying up the face to that height. Or I am intersecting a 'flat' extruded face between to levels of the contoured terrain. These are very time consuming. (hope this makes sense) Anything out there? Perhaps this plugin? http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=48812%26amp;hilit=+curves A sample model showing what you start and end with would be most helpful.

Hi: An .rb is the filename extension for a Ruby script. Ruby is a high level scripting language used for Sketchup to automate repetitive, or multiple operations to achieve a modeling purpose. How to install on a Mac can be found here for a start: http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/38583

I saw that page. Since it didn't say anything about 8 at the top I didn't scroll down...Looks like I am set for 8. Now to go to 2014. Though not sure why.

The 'About SketchUp' should look like this: [image: 3kTO_Capture.PNG] for the latest version of v2014... You should be able to Install it in such a way that will update it to be the latest v2014. If it's offering a Repair and you choose that route, then can I assume it does not update it to the current version ?? Your ultimate option is to uninstall your out-of-date v2014, as it offers you: and then re-install it cleanly... It will keep any previous licensing files, custom Plugins, Materials, Components, Styles etc, but you will loose all toolbar statuses, dialog setups etc that are Registry dependent...

Maybe triangulate points by TIG if you have a cloud of points and / or Toposhaper by Fredo6 if you have level lines...

I find that happens whenever I switch from Perspective to Parallel Projection. All I do to solve it is zoom extents, which works a bit like a "regen" in ACAD.

Here is one solution using DC A cubic with two DC holes (cut2, includes the rim) As for scaling, one requires the insert point to be on the outside otherwise to hard to calculate, therefore place the surround with toggle to inner (smaller) size, place and scale to suit opening then use interact finger to toggle to outer. Cheers Philip PS another method using four cubic components, would be to join them without worrying about hidden lines/ faces. But to incorporate a outer shell/ explosion at some point when happy with the object created. Then one can use "cutlist" or other for material takeoff, as shown in some of my other posts. one can swap the childless component with its original if one need to amend it at some later point. It continues to reinforce that SU is capable in preparing construction documents. I haven't made the leap to SU for a complete set of con docs. When see stuff like this I really want to. The workflow and techniques are not all there yet for me. Anytime you can detail a set to this degree it will diminish onsite errors.

@xiombarg said: If you are going to tweak it anyway, you might want to use one of the ASIMO models in the 3D warehouse. The body has a similar build and you could model a new head if you need to. I was fixated on searching for the VGC and blew by the ASIMO models, thanks for the reminder. I'm using the internal mechanics from some open source humanoids like InMOOV (hands)and Intel's Jimmy (arms/legs), with the VGC head. Since the Tumblr pics available, it will give me a chance to try some of the photo to 3D modelling freeware out there now to start the head. Thanks for the suggestions.
