Sketchy effects lose detail as I zoom out
-
Hi,
I'm trying to use sketchup's inbuilt "sketchy" styles to apply a sketchy look to some flat drawings. I've imported them as DWGs and applied the style I want (the camera positioned to "top" so they are flat). The problem is that the sketchy style causes too much detail to be lost even when I turn "detail" up in the style options to full.
I attached an export view from the plan in normal style and then one in sketch style so you can see the difference. As you can see for example in this one a lot of the detail is lost when zoomed out.
Is there any way round this? Any sketchy styles that don't loose detail so much?

Sketchy styles are made up of a collection of png images of lines. The shortest line possible is 16 pixels long. The style may not have lines that short, though.
One option is to make image exports larger. Click on Options and increase the pixel width. Try 3000 px wide to start. Be aware though, this will make the lines appear thinner, too

More on this:
Here are examples of the same model and same sketchy line style exported at different sizes.
Here's a comparison of the three.
You'll see that there's more detail in the larger exports although the lines get thinner. You have to weigh out what you need to show and how. You can leverage this to get varying line weights in the same images as in this one:
The styles I make always use the maximum number of stroke lengths and the maximum number of strokes per length so as to make it possible to get the most detail.
