Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

@dave r said: @khai said: ... all that to me is junk.... As a hobbyist using SketchUp 2017 Make (according to your forum profile), the change in the subscription price has no impact on you anyway. This is what I do. I have a dedicated computer for Sketchup Make 2017 because I've gotten so handy with it that I would hate to part with it. I get it that software maintenance is expensive, and an aging product like Sketchup is likely to fall down the priorities list for a company like Trimble. I looked at their financials page (linked on their website) https://investor.trimble.com/static-files/d848716e-e452-4d46-9606-ac7163a309c7. I'm not an expert, but it looks like they are raking in ~1.5B per quarter after expenses. But yes, the price they are asking for an updated version of Sketchup is too much for my little pocketses. If I was a bazillionnaire, I would buy Sketchup and open source it. I can only dream tho...

The recovered location is where you find .SKP copies of a model if SketchUp crashes, otherwise they are deleted as that model is closed. You need to have the AutoSave option set in Preferences for this to happen. The backup files are suffixed .SKB and are always saved with the model itself, again you need to have the backup option set in Preferences. You change the .SKB suffix into .SKP for SketchUp to be able to open it. A backup file is always one version behind the current model, and it is made whenever you save your model. There are no .BAK files in SketchUp. On a MAC the equivalent of a PC's .SKB is suffixed ~.SKP as the previous version of the model file...

@dentalez said: I realize that that is their ultimate goal, to get everyone to upgrade. Certainly that's part of it. They need to have customers to be able to afford developers and others along with the infrastructure required. And there's the shareholders to keep happy. Another part of it, though is that other software, operating systems, web browsers, etc., are constantly evolving or as in the case of internet browsers like IE, no longr supported by their makers. This kind of stuff creates problems for users. Of course it isn't practical to support older versions. Lots of reasons. @dentalez said: Personally my perpetual license at home I do not want to upgrade. I've bought every upgrade since version 2 for my use. I use it for both work and hobby. That's fine. You can continue using it. You might find issues one day if you are upgrading your OS that it evolves out from under the older version of SketchUp. You can cross that bridge if you get to it. That's been an issue for some Mac users with older versions of SU. @dentalez said: But if we as a company upgrade and I add one the new licenses to my home computer so I can work on company projects at home wouldn't that become the default and supersede all my models/SKU versions I have on my personal computer? if and when I remove the companies version would I be locked out of all my (Personal) years of work? No. Each version of SketchUp installs as a separate program. You could install SketchUp 2023 on your computer and log into it with the subscription license from your employer without affecting the older version of SketchUp you have installed. The old version won't be able to open files created in SU2023 unless you first backsave them in 23 or you use Eneroth's Open Newer Version extension to open the file in your old version. Installing the new version of SketchUp on your machine won't convert the existing SketchUp model files to 2023, though. You'd have to open them in 2023 and save them to do that. Personally I think there are a lot of nice things that have been added in the last several versions. I wouldn't want to go back to using an old version.

I found the universal importer on this site very useful and allows the use of fbx files so additional resources there. I find the facet reducxtion aspect a little hit and miss but otherwise if works well. https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=71951&p=689880&hilit=universal+importer#p689880 When looking for resources, the sites I have on speed dial to coin a phrase are:- https://3dsky.org/ https://cgmood.com/ These sites allow three models per diem but during holidays will allow a lot more. Depending on the depositer, the usual caveat of standar applies so cleaning up and dimensioning can be a chore.

You don't need any special extensions or plugins to do this. Just enter the coordinates in the Measurements window. For relative coordinates use the form <x,y,z> and for absolute coordinates use the form [x,y,z]. I used relative coordinates in this example. And then the Text tool will show the coordinates when the leader is anchored to a point in the model. [image: BdAL_relative.gif]

What version of SketchUp are you using? Your profile says 2020 Free/Make but there is no such version. If you are using SketchUp 2023, Flip Along was removed from the Context menu. It was replaced with a single Flip command. The toolbar button looks like this. [image: jsZg_tb_flip_4800x4800.png] You can still set keyboard shortcuts for Flip Along but they won't be found in a menu.

The serial number was part of the old Classic license system. SketchUp 2023 is only available by subscription. You won't get a serial number. The e-mail address and password assigned to the subscription is used to sign in.

At work we've used a Shark HD5 for about 8 years. It's still going but we just recently bought a new Shark HD520. Yes, it's more than your budget but they are great machines. They have an HD500 for under $3K that has a 13x25x7 travel. Also comes with a copy of Vcarve Desktop software. Might be worth a look. Good luck

Ah.... So no imagery with Add Location? If you're contacting Marin County for imagery you might ask about contour in some CAD format you can import.

I believe that you can also use some Dynamic components!

Hi Dave, Was dragged into other territoties and had to get off this project for a bit. Thanks for your response. Responding to your question, "So you want to select only the edges in the model or at least within a selected region? You could select all of the geometry including the faces"? : Ideally what I was looking to do was select (in the example image) only the line [and all its connected segments] between the hand-drawn blue endpoints/arrows. I probably should have colored that entire length. This section of line (essentially 4 connected arcs in this case) is co-planar with all the other visible elements. So I don't believe its not categorized a true "edge"; its a kind of "island edge" submerged within the larger face. The select/deselect method is one that I often use (or version of that toggling between face/wireframe visibility) - but in this case the trick is selecting just that area without selecting other edges (which would also then remain selected). If I were to do that a be left with multiple, connected edges, I'd either still need to manually, individually deselect segments (if the curves were 'broken'), or arcs (if they were true welded arcs). For some reason, 2x-clicking to remove the unneeded lines/edges as entire connected lines was not working - and 3x-clicking was reselecting the faces. Thx

You could also use the trial of Revit and export obj, fbx or ifc from there.
