Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

In what context? It's probably best to talk to the head teacher, to gain permission to photograph the children. As a photographer, I do a lot of work with schools, but in my experience photographing can be a nightmare because you need to gain the permission of both the school and the parents. If you can do that, it's a simple case of getting the kids to pose, then using SketchUp to draw around the figures to create those 2D cut-outs, SketchUp's trademark. I don't think there is any other way around this, because of all the laws set out to protect children from exploitation (it's all very silly I know- as if the bogieman is always hiding in the wings- perhaps ) Good luck. (you're probably going to need it! ) Tom

I tried to rerender with different options you guys suggested, but nothing seems to work (except increasing render time ). I think it's the material of the lamp or something. When I move the lightsource down about 1 meter, I don't get the spots (but the light isn't coming from the lamp ofcourse). If I change the color of the lamp housing to black, the spots also disappear. Next, I tried to use a VRay material (plastic) but that didn't help neither. It seems that whenever I change the lamp material to something bright, It shows me the spots. When I use a dark material, the spots disappear. I'm at work now, so I can't show you the results right now. Tnx

One of the last companies you might expect to have freeware, but a few months ago I ran across this new free cloud light version of AutoCad. That could be an option, but I don't remember what kind of curve tools it had. You do have to create a login, but it is free. http://autodeskbutterfly.wordpress.com/

Very nice to see the anatomy of how the icons where made. I was pondering on that when I was trying to make some icons in matching style. The line-weight is much more thicker than I'd expected. They seem to have used some custom Style. [image: DI5l__0007_Stamp.png]

If we could think about making a ToolsObserver for the affected tools [i.e. followme etc] that might spot if edges/faces were going to be too small... it could then warn you in advance... I made a proto-pre-observer-version in PipeAlongPath where it stalls with an error message, if the radius of the pipe and its bend are within certain limits, as faces that are tool small might then result...

I agree with Jean... except that I make my 'selection-colour' is a little more 'orange' [255,200,30]... because sometimes 'pure-yellow' doesn't display so well and 'orange' isn't a commonly used colour either...

I did make it work by going back to my models and setting them to have no Geo-Locations and this worked. I was able to import my models. But it still seems messed up in SU V.8 when you do have a Geo-Referenced SU model to import and the dialog does not come up to ask you if you want to choose location or place in the geo-referenced location.

In addition, you can make it easier on yourself (editing,) by taking advantage of layers, to hide/show particular elements of the model. (Examine attached.) -Taff geo_taff(2).skp [image: 8Hho_geo_taff2.jpg]

Pbacot, You observation of the 16Th of an inch dimensions is a keen one. Normally I do not dimension to that degree of accuracy. In this case however, we are the builder, and the field dimensions were taken by me and the drawing of the stone is actually the size that it will be cut to. The Stone supplier may choose to adjust slightly if it makes sense to them to do so, but this gives them an accurate starting point. Also, math does not lie. If I take an existing overall measurement and need a certain equal number of divisions within that measurement and it comes out at xx 1/16", so be it. The guys in the field will laugh, call me an idiot, discuss what color the sky is in my world, and then make it happen, but they will at least have an accurate plan to start with. I absolutely agree that the craftsman should be shown what we want, not how to get there. Especially when dealing in such artistic mediums as interior cut stone and Finish carpentry. The good ones are artists! Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I will post finished photos. ]p

Thanks, Tom, I may try that. I've not been using the import of dwgs very often lately. Got a bunch of furniture leg profiles from a place that manufactures legs and other mill work which I would import and use as patterns to extrude. I've been making models of antique furniture using photos of the originals and found I can usually trace out the shapes pretty close, so haven't the DWGs much.

I'm pretty sure this is a graphic card issue. (which one you got?) Confirm by temporary disable hardware acceleration. If you see it then, update your drivers.

Solo, thank's for the "Sculptris", reference. Although I'll probably never us it for my primary work, it's really fun to use! It reminds me of a program from about '96, by Dazzle, maybe. But so much easier!

Good to hear. I have the same problem...too many plugins that is. I actually went through my plugins folder before migrating it over to 8 to see what was in there....lots of buried treasures I'd forgotten about, and even some oldies back from SketchUp 4! [edit] Ha! Just checked PageExim, and it was written for v4. Too funny.

@honoluludesktop said: Apple is candy wrapper, and I do not mean that badly. I wear Ferragamo shoes too. i dunno, i think it goes a bit beyond just making the things look fancy.. the unibody design of their laptops can't be beat.. literally, take a solid chunk of aluminum and carve out the innards. they're not just candy wrapped, they're light and durable with attention to detail candy wrappings i honestly think if you walked in your honolulu apple store(s) and picked one up that you'd be impressed with the design.. [wether or not you'd like OSX, well, that's a different story ] and hey, you even get a little feel good music/soft voice type of description of the manufacturing process!
