Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Sorry I can't be more help with the ArchiCAD to SU transfer but I do have a solution to my original post. It turns out you have to save down to SketchUp 7. We figured this out a couple weeks ago but thought I'd share and put a bookend on this one. Thanks for everyone's input.

Hello Emilia93 - Good question indeed. We may be able to find something for you. Yes, there are good general tutorials on Sketchup. Yes, there are accurate sources for existing old and famous buildings, too. But no, do not expect to find them combined in one. Unless you have the architect's drawings or want to go out and measure old buildings directly - after bracing yourself to a very long ladder - the only accurate sources for reproducing old famous buildings are old books with measured drawings. First - familiarize yourself with Sketchup by modelling a few simple objects well. Then - try the bigger challenge of modelling a real building after measured drawings. The fastest way forward in modelling is to sit next to someone who already knows the software well, asking her lots of questions as you model. Seasoned modelers tend to be patient by nature. So please reach out. If you absolutely cannot find anyone, combine simple video tutorials aimed at general modeling skills with trial and error and questions in forums like this. Maybe we could supply you with some titles of architectural reference books with measured drawings of existing old and famous buildings. So, what particular types of buildings are you looking for?

The native Model Info > Statistics > Purge Unused... removes ALL unused 'things'. My Plugin http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=PurgeAll allows you to purge all OR selected 'things'...

@ggunn said: "I would trying clearing the IE caches/temporary internet files next." My apologies; that seems to have worked. I had cleared the history but I had not gone into internet options and dumped everything. Once I did that, geolocation started working again. Thanks! Good. Glad that took care of it. And as you've discovered, there's a difference between clearing the history and clearing the caches. @ggunn said: ...and I don't have IE at all on my Mac. No, on Mac SketchUp uses Safari. You didn't bring up Mac before and your profile indicates Windows so I didn't think it was necessary to mention Safari.

You cannot rely on the order of elements in a Selection. If you freeze it using es=selection.to_a then the order is frozen - but not much use. You can extract objects from a selection using grep, e.g. ... gs=selection.grep(Sketchup::Group) Gives you an array of all groups in the selection. You can make an array of their names [sorted] and then find their matching id - into an hash - which might then be in an order you want... But you haven't really explained why the selected-items' order is so important for you...

Fredoscale stretching is good for more complex windows. It makes components unique, including nested components which are stretched. Sometimes this doesn't fit with your component strategy. You have to decide when and how to use this powerful tool. Windows and doors are definitely the most use I get from this tool. You've made one and you really don't want to rebuild for all the different sizes you need. The most work is going in and renaming the various components properly so you can use them by name in the future. I've never been able to be truly diligent in this regard. I have seen the tool do some strange things with multiple nested component but usually it handles anything you throw at it.

@joeanderson said: Thanks a lot for your advice and the link! However, is it possible to realise with the standard tools? Hi Joe, I was once resistant to using plugin and exclaimed "why can I not do this simple thing straight out of the box". Once I spent a few minutes working out how to install plugins i did not look back. With the Plugin Store and extension warehouse this could not be easier. I would recommend to give it a go and before you know it you will have more tools than you can shake a stick at.

Well, I always thought using duplicated components would create fewer edges/faces than the same number of groups, but alas they are identical and directly proportional to the number of each. I don't doubt that using components (as I do for about half my drawings) has speed/file size advantages, but this probably means that only reducing the number of edges/faces will help the triple-click issue. I know I could reduce detail, and undoubtedly simplify a lot of components/groups, especially those made when I first started this project, but it would take a massive amount of work. In the end splitting the file is a work around, but one I will have to use. BTW the Mac version of SU 2015 is 64 bit only, and checking memory usage SU has elected to give itself 2 GB of Ram and there is no virtual memory in use, and lots more memory available if it wants it. cheers ralph

If your edit creates a new layer you must flatten it before you save.

... I fact it seems bette to Geo-Locate the model either by way of grabbing aerial location or manually > window > model info > geo locate before changing time zone in shadows. Geo-locating updates time zone in any case. Should work both ways I guess (though a time zone only isn't accurate enough) but least this works.
