Did you ever get a response to this question? I, too would like to export sections with the layers intact to either a dwg or dxf file. DE

Modo is a fantastic software. But I prefer Sketchup for being accustomed. One day still desire to learn to use Modo in a professional way. The tools of selection of Modo are fantastic, as to Loop Selection. Developers of Sketchup should analyze the Modo more closely.

oh, ok. Thanks Your description of your method is such that I didn't need to download your skp file. But the tool that I am suggesting will be not only for the square faces that I have shown, but also for use with curved lines on the faces. I really appreciate your feedback though. Maybe I will have to see if I can purchase a copy of "Ruby script for SketchUp for dummies". Thanks Crazy Eyes

basically a nice idea. however I don't like the prospect of losing even more space due to additional toolbars. but a slight variation of the idea could be great: if you press and hold down a certain shortcut key, icons of your favourite components assemble in a circular way around your cursor. while still holding down the shortcut key, you move your cursor over the desired component and release the button. as a result the move tool is activated and the component is clinging to your cursor...

@gaieus said: Hi Tavi, Just a short list: navigation around (orbiting, panning, zooming) scenes with different layers on/off ability to change (obviously pre-defined) textures say on walls or roof tiles or colours of window frames Hmmm...I'm asking for more actually. Here is mine: Navigation. Rendering options. Making changes to the model. Textures and also geometries. Collaboration. People can make modification simultaneously. Ideally, it will be like online doc/spreadsheet. But I have no idea where we should start from?

I saw this software a while back in a CAD magazine and contacted the company to see if there was any planned future support for Sketchup. I was basically told there was not enough of a request for it. They did say if there was enough interest it might be something they would consider supporting. I do know people who use it and swear by it. If you like what you see please write them as I would also love a way to have far more security control of designs after they are sent out. http://www.pinionsoftware.com/Products/Overview.php Scott

Yes please, curve divider would be very helpful. If it could work like the divide line that would be great. I often need to construct very complicated curved ramps so being able to divide the curves that define the ramp equally would be nice so that the ramp climbs smoothly.

I like the idea of multiple panes that are interactive. That might even make the inference issue that people have a bit less challenging too.

As remus said, put it into perspective to your employer. It takes way much more time for you to do it manually. $20 is nothing. SketchUp Pro is cheap compared to AutoCAD.

Hey Rick ! Great to get a reply from you. @rickw said: It "might be possible" in ruby, by going into each group/component and applying the texture to the faces inside. I'm afraid i have to understand the same time:" It may be not possible ". Each of us works with components to make the skp files light, save CPU, and take benefit of component's behavior. At the end, we can't apply material and textures easily .. Really hope this SketchUp improvement will interess you enough to work on it. simon

Hi Pixero,, Many Thanks for the scripts, especially the JS frame step, this isn't necessarily a request for you but I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed more. Could this not be incorporated or adapted so that it could be used with some rendering software to produce animations. Unless i missed something I'd have thought this would have jumped on many others. either way many Thanks Matt
