@JQL In my case I would prefer to minimize the amount of edges as I'm importing the model into some other software that displays funny when theres many edges. Also wouldn't triangulation require some sort of plugin? If this is built into Sketchup were would I find it? Thanks

That depends on the object, but in it's most rudimentary form, simply select a face and move it. [image: 2uMh_Skew.gif]

Yes, it must have been the Mac color wheel. Pity it is not that big on the PC. As I like to eyeball the colors I find the RGB sliders not very intuitive for choosing colors. Maybe I'll pick colors in PS and type the RGB values into SU.

I've had this issue too. I can't recall how or if we fixed it. I'll check back (its a couple of years ago). In the mean time, if you discover an answer, I'd be very pleased to know also.

Without seeing your code, this is just a guess, but I suspect that you are falling victim to the fact that all coordinates in SketchUp are internally represented as inches, regardless of the visible units you have set for the model. So, 1000mm=39.37inches. Apply #to_i and you get 39 inches = 990.6mm.

You have the bolt component nested inside the Infill component. When components or groups are nested, CutList thinks the outer ones are assemblies, not parts, so it doesn't list them. If you need to treat the bolt and the channel part of the infill as a single assembly, edit the existing component, select all its contents except the bolt, and create a new component. It will then be nested at the same depth as the bolt, and will show up in CutList.

There were many comments, but no useful comments to solve the problem. I've just found out 'Makeface'(by Todd Burch' on Smustard's homepage. It recognizes the closed area even if its not completely closed. I removed all the faces and used 'Makce face'. Finally, The problem was solved

That 'Google' path applies to SketchUp versions <= 8... For newer versions the appropriate plist is found in: /Users/User_Name/Library/Application Support/SketchUp ####/SketchUp/Shortcuts.plist Where the #### will be 2013|2014|2015 etc Note that in v2015 the "Plugins" menu was renamed "Extensions" by Trimble, so any shortcuts copied from an earlier version plist, which will look for "Plugins" will not work: however, you can edit the copied plist with a plain-text editor and replace any "Plugins/" with "Extensions/" - when SketchUp is started the plist should then work properly - assuming the equivalent Plugins are installed and available in that menu... Also remember that you need to hold the 'alt' key as you click the menu to include "Libraries" to the "Finder" menu...

Try moving the component towards the boundaries of the edit box. (Rectangle select everything first within the edit box of the component). I guess three sides are origins for the edit box and won't resize automatically.

Move the mouse over the (i) or click on the user name. In the near of the bottom of every page you can open a member list too. @sketchutect said: Also, at what point do free, newbie accounts gain the privilege to private message? is that for paid members only? No, there is no difference for free and paid accounts here. (I don't remember if this function is restricted for the first few posts)

Another variation on the above method is to model a low-poly version of the object and then subdivide using Artisan: viewtopic.php?f=335&t=42938&start=270#p486774 I find that the results you get are much more fluid and naturalistic. It's also a faster workflow as you don't have to work with complex curves.

I just redrew it from scratch next to yours. I used your version for dimensions and then deleted it after mine was finished. As for what is reasonable, that depends upon the application. If this is to be used in a model of a bed to show how the rails are attached to the posts, mine is overkill, too. If you are making a dimensioned drawing so a machinist can make them, it is probably about right. Even for 3D printing mine will probably be more than adequate. You could figure the resolution (diameter) of the nozzle for for printer and make the segment length at least that long but longer won't be a problem. Your version of the "hole" has 512 sides. That's less than 1° between vertices. Even 360 sides would be too many for nearly every application. I used 96 sides and I think it is round enough to get the point across.

Hi Taipi, hi folks. If you are going through the trouble of modelling inside wall beams to get an accurate count, dont forget that, cutting a hole is not sufficient. You must add some additional framing elements to account for the material removal caused by the hole, for example, lintel at the top of a window or door and extra studs on the sides and bottom too. See tis page for example: http://www.small-house-building.com/framing/window-framing/ Just ideas.

Hi folks. If you have SU Pro, you can export from SU as dwg then import the dwg into a new empty model while specifying "Merge coplanar faces" when importing. This shall eliminate all this triangulation. Just ideas.

It is covered somewhere... But I can't find it offhand... So here's a precis... The Sets work in a similar way for Plugins and Extensions. I'll explain it for Extensions... The use of 'Sets' is to allow you to set up and use collections [aka "sets"] of Extensions and easily witch between them. So if you do several different kinds of SketchUp modeling, rendering etc, then you can make various Sets of Extensions to suit you needs for each task, and swap between then in a few clicks... Click on the 'Sets' [blue] button and another 'Sets' dialog opens. This has several options... The top one is 'Add' - type in a new Sets name and Add it to the list. All current Extensions' statuses are remembered. If there are Sets available the second list shows them, select an item and 'Apply' becomes available. Click that and the statuses of all Sets are changed to match that named-set. You will need to restart SketchUp for any Disabled Extensions to be 'unloaded'. The Revert button swaps back to the last used Set. The Update button updates the selected named-set to match the current Extensions' statuses. The Delete button removes the selected named-set from the system. The Export button lets you save the 'set' file externally so you can then Import it on another Computer using that button. The Export All button exports a folder of ALL sets which can be Imported using the Import All button on another Computer. The Import/Import All button uses the Exported file[s], allowing you to sync your Sets between Computers... If an Extension is included in a Set, but it is not installed on a Computer, then it is ignored. The Plugins Sets are similar but allow you to choose Plugins which might not have been made as Extensions...

You should be controlling layer visibility with scenes in SketchUp and using those scenes for viewports in LayOut. Then you don't need to control SketchUp's layer visibility in LayOut. What do you have for render settings in LayOut? Very likely the edit render setting is set to less than High so imported images won't look very sharp. Export render quality can be set higher and the image will probably look good. Try importing your image and making a PDF export at high or even medium quality.
