Thank you for the help. Manual adjustments seem the best alternative for what I need -- I just wanted to confirm there wasn't a simple trick in SU that I didn't understand.

Menu > View > Hidden Geometry will show hidden/smoothed edges so you can edit or snap to them. With them showing you can now draw lines onto the surfaces to make new areas and then add another colour to these 'stripe' faces... There's also a plugin called 'lines/tools on surface' that lets you do this more easily... Remember to switch off 'Hidden Geometry' when you are done... Make sure your Style includes showing edges !

You can export scene based animation with File > Export > Animation. Read more about this here: http://download.sketchup.com/sketchuphelp/gsu6_win/Content/K-Input_and_Output/Import_and_Export/IO-AnimExportOptions.htm (note that though it is marked as a [image: welcome-Plus.jpg] "Pro only feature", it is also available in the free version since SU 6) However, since Sketchy Physics doesn't animate objects based on scenes, you won't be able to export any animation from SU. The only way is to use a screen (motion) capture application like Auto Screen Recorder for instance (but of course, there are several other apps) which also has a free version.

Thanks for that tutorial on 3D Warehouse Gaieus. I have several models of stairs that revolve around a central wood column and I could never get that quite right - your tutorial solved the problem. Now I want to experiment with the method on the front bullnose edge of a stair tread which can get kind of messy when textured.

Cool! I believe there should be a way to import the materials from .3ds file into SU. Seems like there was a thread around here about it. I don't often work that route, so I'm not sure. Anyone else know? Chris

If you have anything uploaded,on the top left (right above the model window) there's a "Share" button where you can set share functions even after the upload. This model must apparently have been "unshared" ever since.

UPDATE: Ive just bought a ASUS Nvidea EN9400GT (1Gb RAM), was cheap (UK £40), installed and working, has corrected my "selection" problem and is now super fast.... I was on an Intel Board which that inbuilt unit was 512Mb RAM (so wasnt a slow unit) however seems to be all about the OpenGL componant of the graphics board. Many Thanks @donaldaugustsson said: ok, i have ATI Radeon graphiccard and it have been alot of problem with that card... what card do you recommend, cause i am tired of a the problem

I have an Nvidia on a P3 850Mhz (0.8Ghz) and it runs way faster than my Core2DUO at 2.4Ghz with the intel board. 90% of the software relies on openGL to work correctly, i am just researching cards now, however NVidia seem to support openGL fully... The card i tested it on was a GeForce4 Ti which runs like a rocket. Many Thanks Ashley

The style of this house would work with a hip roof. Added bonus, you can make a hip roof fit almost anything. Of course you could use a flat roof with a parapet and be done with it. Another way is designing the whole form of the house at once, instead of one part then another.

Hi UPDATE: Working, thanks to the learning curve, was a conjuction between non welded vector line for "follow me" and the fact the "resolution" was to high, slighty concerned that it isnt true vector with circles (using the vector beziers storage methods), however the fact i now know this and the methods to get around it is good. Many Thanks

HiPhil, Do you have any plugins installed? I ma quick search and I don't have this ruby (Olmage.rb) on my HD. Also, there's no kml exporter in my exporters folder of SU 7 so I could imagine that this is a plugin that would require a kml exporter. Now if I'm not mistaken, there used to be (???) kml export from older versions of SU (maybe v.5?) so this could even be an old plugin that would like to use that function (but I'm not sure about that since it was some three years ago). I also made quick Google search for "Olmage.rb" but it didn't return any useful.

RHD, I'm not familiar with the Mac UI but on PC, in the Preferences dialog (which you can activate from the Sketchup menu on the Mac AFAIK), the first tab is "Applications" where I need to identify the image editor I want to use for this "interactive, on-the-fly" image editing. Have you set that in your SU?

Hi Jeff, This definitely shouldn't be happening with dimensions. Could you share a couple of snapshots?
