      Hi everyone !

I want to ask you for some problems with using sketchup and its performances.

First of all my hardware :

      • Intel core 2 duo cadenced at 3.6Ghz
      • 3048Mb of Memory (DDR2)
      • HD 4870 with 512Mb of memory and the lastest driver (Catalyst 9.4)

The fact is that my scene in sketchup is not too simple but is not too complex too, however :

      • When i active the 3D acceleration in sketchup, viewing my model, turning around etc.. works well, but when i want to edit, the cursor for doing a simple line for example is so slow (about 3-4sec beetween two posisitions whe i move my mouse)

      • When 3D acceleration is desactived, editing model is better but when i want to look and turn around the project, it's slow...

So is that a problem known in sketchup ? Due to OpenGL ? Due to ATI graphics.. Is there any issue to fix that ?

Thanxs and sorry for the english..
      Tinux.

        Hi

Same problem, its your Graphics card.... I have an Nvidia on a P3 850Mhz (0.8Ghz) and it runs way faster than my Core2DUO at 2.4Ghz with the intel board.

90% of the software relies on openGL to work correctly, i am just researching cards now, however NVidia seem to support openGL fully... The card i tested it on was a GeForce4 Ti which runs like a rocket.

        Many Thanks

Some (older) ATI cards work best if you disable Fast Feedback from the Window>Preferences>OpenGL panel. It might not work with your card, though.

            UPDATE:

Ive just bought a ASUS Nvidea EN9400GT (1Gb RAM), was cheap (UK £40), installed and working, has corrected my "selection" problem and is now super fast....

I was on an Intel Board which that inbuilt unit was 512Mb RAM (so wasnt a slow unit) however seems to be all about the OpenGL componant of the graphics board.

            Many Thanks
