Hi Ronald, In the first post of this topic you can find the plugin as an attachment. Read the post carefully as there's another "background" script you need to install as well.

Hi, I had look at your plans but i found it hard to understand as it is difficult view it with excel. But i made a very simplistic version so you can play around with it yourself to get the final product that you need. Pier.skp I'm sure there's is someone beavering away on it at the moment and will upload a better version soon enough. But to help out a little hope you view this and play around with it rgds, Rich

OK, I see the problem. For others also to understand; if you want to import an image to texture existing faces, in the import browser window, select "Import as texture" instead of "Import as image".

Thanks, Dylan. I wasn't sure. Before SU 7 had this "improvement" and we used to be able to handle 1024 pixel images only, there was a "registry hack" to access 2028 pixel images but it was Windows only. Good to know it works on Macs now, too!

Well you can change the position of the texture and stretch it a bit, but not proper UVing. to do the moving/stretching thing: right click on a single face with applied texture->texture->position then click the little handles on the texture.

SketchUp (Pro) already has a 3ds exporter built in. With the free version, you can have different workarounds like exporting to kmz and then (in a 3rd party app like the free Blender for instance) convert the kimz into something else etc...

Right after SU is started, I cannot snap my cursor to anything but after a while it is fine again. I guess all resources are used to get SU on its feet and cannot do much of anything else? I cannot properly navigate complex models right after I start SU either (it's locked).

ok i didn't know that we could have hidden edges, but for tiny bits, it is strange because I had green markers for placing my line that means that I am at an end point... Good advices for me that mean that I need to be rigorous. So I m going to check all tiny bits

@roger said: I am not sure how useful this post is, but I do think changing shadow color in a ruby should be dead easy for someone with even modest programming talent. After all for the shadow to have a color, that color has to be assigned somewhere in the code so isolating that piece of code and writing a dialog box to insert a new color definition is all that is required. Now I have probably revealed how much and how little I know about programming. I think the SketchUp programmers could alter the SketchUp C-code to create shaodows in a different color. The shadows are produced using a "trick" in OpenGL (a set of software n Windows and on the vidoe boards to produce 3D renderings of a model). OpenGL does not support sun (and shaadows) directly, but people have found a way to identify where the sun is not shining - basically by adding additional geometry to the model to extrude a "shadow volume" from each face to represent the places where that face would cast a shadow. Then the scene is re-rendered with the shadow volumes and the two results a merged to create the shadow effect. However, we Ruby programmers, can only do what the SketchUp programmers have opened up to us. For instance we cannot access and alter the dimension entity. We also cannot intercept and modify the code which processes the OpenGL interface. So, as far as I know, there is no easy way for us to alter the color of the shadows.

The simple answer is it can't be done in sketchup. If you want to do something like this youd be much better of looking at a proper animation package like 3ds max or maya.

Take a copy of your file and delete about half of the components and see if KT still crashes. Also try running it on another more powerful system.
