Few questions
-
Hello!
I'm still learning SketchUp and I have a few questions. I mostly work in 3ds Max and I import my .3ds models into SketchUp.
-
Is there a way to automatically import a model from Max and have it snap to the center axis? Instead of it floating in space until I click where I want it.
-
I also have a problem when I bring in numerous models from one scene and having them 'disconnect' from each other. Making more work moving them within SketchUp back to there original place. I've tried grouping in Max, importing, but they continue to import disconnected and scattered across the plane.

Is there a post for texturing? I'm mostly looking for a step by step "how to texture" for imported models. I've been reviewing many of the tutorials online and through SketchUp but still haven't quite grasp texturing my own .3ds models. I would greatly appreciate if it could included texturing patters such as fabric as well as texturing curved surfaces like the cushion on a seat.
Thanks for your help everyone!

Hi Jessica, I'm curious why are you modeling in 3dsmax and then wanting to texture in SU?

I work for a design company creating the interiors of airplanes. We need Max to create high poly models with intricate details. We're looking to use SketchUp for more a stylized 'sketchy' look for our interiors to show to the client before we render a final, realistic image in 3D.
We thought modeling in Max, using SketchUp as a pre-initial drawing, after the fabrics are accepted using the same models to render a realistic scene in Max, hopping we can use more time on the final and less on the initial drawing.
Is there a way to import the textures on the models from Max into SketchUp? Every time I tired it would import it as default gray.

Cool! I believe there should be a way to import the materials from .3ds file into SU. Seems like there was a thread around here about it. I don't often work that route, so I'm not sure. Anyone else know?
