Hi Silizium, In the German forum, there is this announcement: @eeva said: Für die deutschsprachigen... hallo an alle! nach dem forum update am 16. / 17. I have put you into that usergroup however already so you can see the forum. Welcome to SCF!

Hi Shokan, hi folks. After you import the DXF file into your SketchUp (SU) model, provided that it is not sloppy cad, ie the edges are properly connected at the corners, there are no gaps at corners, the edges do not cross at corners or protrude inside a space that you want to fill, there are no overlapping edges, you can simply retrace any edge to close a face. Then you can push/pull it at will. There is also a utility that comes with SU that allows the closing of faces. Make sure that, in preferences, you enable all extensions. Then, in the Tools menu you shall have the choice Utilities --> Create face. Notice that you can create only one face at a time with this. There are plugins that will allow you to speed up this process as well as plugins that may help in repairing sloppy cad files. Just ideas.

For even moderately complex models, using groups and/or (especially for repetitive elements) components is a must anyway. This makes it possible to do anything more complex than a box actually.

Funny, I have been playing with something similar tonight. There is a plugin called Qhull. You might find this interesting to generate random cell structure. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=19040&hilit=qhull I tried to combine Qhulls' Voronoi with Lattice Maker and Artisan. It got kind of messy, but at least it looks organic. [image: BAq7_vo.png] [image: ngjw_x7.jpg]

So to recap... The plugin 'modelfunction' is the culprit ? http://modelfunction.com/ Perhaps best avoided UNLESS you anticipate glitches ???

@ Dave R : beside to learn of practicing the SU, yes i want to make bed like that.for my 4 months daughter. it's so rare in Indonesia furniture like that. so i think if i could be able to draw like that maybe it will lead me to next level of design and using SU. but still so hard to be able build it. even there's example pictures. i think i need to take a course. any ideas where can i take course? it will be fine it if overseas. then i can bring my wife and daughter.hehe.. yes it's a childern bed. @ Gaieus : thank you gaieus. the reason i dont upgrade to su 8 is i still want to learn the basic first, if i already good enough. then i will upgrade it. just my opinion. yes thank you for your advice. i will learn it about the component. i will post it after i try again to fix my modelling. again sorry for my bad english.. thank you so much. this forum and your reply help me a lot.. GBU everyone

I just noticed that I never returned to say that this problem was solved. Jim had the right answer, but I misunderstood what he was saying at the time. It is, as he said, the difference between textures being placed in the My Textures library vs. the In Model library. Now when I import a custom texture, I always switch to In Model textures first.

Hi Niels, As xrok1 and Mitcorb said, there are new powerful tools you can use. But following your demand: Version 1.7 _ Version 1.8 _ Version 1.8.1 _ Version 1.9 _ Version 2.0 _ Version 2.1 _ Version 2.2 and the last one: skin23.zip simon

I suspect you mean door-handles ? There are many tools available to you depending on what you want to achieve. Native Move on selected edges/faces or even vertices will distort a form. Native Scale on selected geometry will distort a form. Native FollowMe will make a consistent cross section along a simple extrusion path. FollowMeAndKeep [FAK] script will do it in 3D without distortion. ShapeBender script will 'bend' a selected group/component along a selected arc/curve. FredoScale script will distort selected forms in several ways that might be useful too. Artisan [$] [aka SubDivideAndSmooth] will allow organic shape making/manipulation probably in excess of you immediate needs BUT well worth having too...

Are the good vs bad of similar complexity and the same version of SU? When you import to another program the inport filter may not be designed to handle the version. check the drop down box on the save as menue and it should show different SU versions. Maybe try an older one??

@unknownuser said: This kicks in way too early - often on models that the camera could previously easily orbit, zoom without degradation - is there a way to disable it or adjust the settings? In the preferences dialog under OpenGL, disable "Use fast feedback" to stop components degrading to a wireframe representation of their bounding box on camera movement. Disabling this will also increase your view refresh time. I think that both "full_detail_render_delay_min" & "full_detail_render_delay_max" both relate to the fast feedback setting wrt wireframe bounding boxes? Regardless of the fast feedback setting, textures will still turn off and on based on the "full_detail_render_delay_min" & "full_detail_render_delay_max" settings. -niall

Well, it was fine until I exported to obj. I got like 10 textures of the same original wood texture, and that don't fly. Trying to redo every side with manual repositioning... it's all a huge mess. Edit: Ok, I redid every side manually.. alt-copying didn't even work properly for IDENTICAL polygons! EG: The back-side of the wheels. I just cut out the wheel front and pasted it in in the back. Exported ok now: only 4 materials as I wanted. [image: IXN7_ahh4.png]
