If you go to Window/Preferences/Shortcuts you have the possibility to assign any shortcuts to the actions/tools you need. Many are already assigned-if you go to Camera/Zoom Extents you will see that the Shortcut is already assigned by default. I would advice you now, to go trough every menu(File/Edit/View/Camera...) and I bet you will find things you never knew. Also, use every action/tool from there so that you know what they do.. Of course some are unavailable because you need to have something selected or else.. Take care !

I almost never use that export feature so I'm not an expert. Anyway I just tried and it came out well in ACAD. [image: uNel_Cattura.JPG] You have to export it as 3d model.

I've done a couple of tutorials on this over the years. Take a look here and here. It's easier if you use SU2014 because then you don't have to worry about scrambling toolbars.

You can show the coordinates using the Text tool and clicking on an endpoint or corner of the object. [image: DhC1_Screenshot-9_10_20147_49_58PM.png]

@dave r said: My advice would be to skip the plugins for now. Get used to the inferencing and you won't need grids. You know when you're drawing or moving on axis by the color of the trailing line. Also make sure you're orbiting around as needed. Remember you're doing sculpture, not painting. Also, when you see the trailing line hold down the shift key and that will lock the axis in as you draw. Jerry

BUT if you have edited and painted faces inside an imported component-definition... and then you reload that definition the earlier 'unpainted' version is reimported, and so your changes are lost ??? Please explain it more clearly... or reconsider your workflow

You can also use the Section Cut Tool to view inside your buildings. The Section Cut Plane can then be placed on a different layer and hidden, but the Cut will still be active.

Yes! A straight JPG or PNG export from SketchUp won't have reflections, soft shadows, bump mapped textures and other features of an image after the model is processed in a rendering application. A rendering application can create nearly photo-realistic images which you'd never get out of SketchUp directly. This is an image export out of SketchUp: [image: 13425714613_7b28c1bf77.jpg] This is from the same model after rendering: [image: 13526644674_3f5a613fe6.jpg]

A plugin already exists that can resize the viewport. Instead of reinventing the wheel, you could have the user run this.

I know that the drawings shown are to illustrate how to color zones in SketchUp, not claimed to be realistic WiFi coverage maps. But in case anyone didn't realize: you will need to measure both signal and noise (or "quality") at a bunch of locations to create your map, which will have more complicated shapes than the circular zones depicted. Walls, cabinets, furniture, etc. block WiFi signals in complex ways, and noise sources such as cordless phones provide varying interference. Generating the "heat map" in the first place is harder than painting it in SketchUp!
