The invisible selection box isn't a feature as you assume. It has to do with the OpenGL settings on your computer. Go to Window>Preferences>OpenGL and untick the box for Use Hardware acceleration. Click OK and then quit and restart SketchUp. Do you see the selection box after doing that?

@catkinsonfox said: My problem is, I'd love to create separate components that I could then drag over and attach to the main component. Think the complexity of a motorcycles engine! Is it possible to do that? I have not yet tried it, having crashed and burned the first time (two years ago) I even thought of the idea . . . Conversely, are there any 3D models of motorcycles I could borrow and modify to give me what I need: decent 6-view renderings of the basic machine -- chassis, engine, wheels/tires, etc.? Yes. You can create separate components and attach them to the main model. You should spend some time learning the basics of SketchUp. Watch the tutorial videos on the SketchUp website as well as here and other places. You can check out the 3D Warehouse for motorcycles or the parts. You might find what you need there.

If you are coming to SU from Wings3D then you're going to be used to subdivision modelling. While SU will do the things you ask, right out of the box (you can also type in the required number of line segments BTW, in addition to doing it visually) you can greatly extend its capabilities by choosing from a huge number of plugins/extensions. Most of them are free (and available here). Others are commercial but usually fairly low-cost...like Artisan.

Are you setting up a scene for each set of active sections?(Please see .skp attached.) The green sections represent active sections and the red represent inactive sections. (I only did 16 buildings...but you should get the idea...click on tabs to navigate) Best, Charlie UBuild_16_Units_SUV7.skp

The 3ds file is faulty. It doesn't open in anything at all. All I get are reports of reading errors.

The layers don't come into it. Did you make components of the parts? Creating dimensioned drawings isn't at all difficult. It's even easier with LayOut.

Pilou, thank you for the help you provided, but unfortunately I don't speak french and wasn't able to understand a lot from Didier's guide, or from the french subforum. Are you kind enough to make a video out of Didier's guide, if I don't ask too much? Or maybe using the Boolean method which I didn't quite understood what you mean by that. Also I would like to know how can you intersect 2 roads that have different width, and they intersect up on a hill, for example. Your help is much appreciated, thanks again.

Yes, what I was suggesting is.....it doesn't need to be 2 point or parallel to merge....Photoshop recognises where the images overlap and free transforms/skews them to merge into each other automatically. As panoramas are normally made in a landscape fashion, you may need to rotate your images before processing them. Basically trick photoshop into thinking it's a landscape when it's actually a building. Hope this makes sense. The above panoramas were made up of around 5-7 single images.

@dave r said: Do you have length snapping enabled in Model Info/Units? If so, that would result in the jumpy movements. Turn it off and things should smooth out. You'll probably want to modify your starting template to get rid of length snapping, too. I don' have that problem anymore, it disappeared somehow [/highlight:1pk159iu] Thanx[/highlight:1pk159iu]
