In my example I found that the path itself is the problem Probably because it becomes part of the volume along the edge Once I removed the path the volume was calculated as a whole. I retried when moving the faces slightly away from the path (so not connected) Somehow the volume was not calculated, but when I now deleted the intermediate faces as TIG suggested I got the complete volume, Strange... Anyway its working now, thanks for the suggestions!

Good idea. I spent 30 mins trying to figure out Marcus' words of wisdom and failed so I've started drawing it again. After 2 hours of intensive drawing I've run into the intersect problems again though, SolidSolver has been working on it for the last 10 minutes, I predict failure. I'll go away and try to see how this 'intersect with selection' works.

Definitely not a crises situation Dave. I was just curious and of course good to know for the future. Checked your bio as I was sure you were in Minnesota and it is very early there to be at work... then saw the Anaesthesia bit. (Spelling - Brit speak) Oh yea... worked myself in a non-clinical area (Well if you call PI/QM and the guardians of JCAHO, now TJC non clinical) of a local health group for fifteen years, so well aware of the medical hours. I am always thrilled for your help as I know you will come up with a solution to my stupidity. And on another note... I don't know how much time you have to view television, but there is a new programme on HGTV called Ellen's Design Challenge - Furniture Designer Competition and being a lover of all things design related and not too bad with a chop saw myself, I am hooked. I know you do woodworking, so you might like it, all the usual TV drama aside. And how I babble on... TTFN

Thanks John for your reply. my main problem was the inability to get the plugin into s/u plugin extension window, (there was no install extension button.) I finally found a s/u 8 m2 update and now works fine. Jim

I might also suggest that if the geometry you are working with doesn't work well with the orientation of the axes, just change the axes so they do. Context click on the axes, select "place" or "change axes" then put it where you want them. You would usually want to use the geometry you are working with as the inference point for placing the new axes.

@dave r said: What do you mean by "mods"? Modifications to your SketchUp model? After you save the SKP file the LO viewports get updated automatically. Changes carried through. Brilliant!

Thank you. Can you please suggest some good add-one? Time is value, do not want to test several ones. Better to hear professional suggestion.

What a simple solution! Thanks very much for your lightning fast response, sometimes you can stare yourself blind. Ehh...I have some more problems, but because I could not even solve the simplest puzzle I left those. So...some new challenges ahead, but no more mightnight oil burning for me. With help through this forum I should be able to prevent that Thanks again!!

Later on you'll eventually want to find a shortcut for View > Component Edit... > Hide Rest of Model... It's very handy to be inside a group/component and well... hide the rest of model sometimes. (wich is what you are setting at model info)

It wouldn't necessarily save you as much time as the potential problems it could cause. It is always best to work in Monochrome so you can see that your faces are correctly orientated.

SketchUp's built-in tolerance is 1/1000" If your initial circle's segment length results in FollowMe geometry edges of shorter than 1/1000", then they won't get made - because SketchUp assumes the two ends are coincident and so skips on. Then any dependent facets also get omitted etc... This occurs in any operation making new geometry - like the native FollowMe, Intersect etc and any similar Plugins... As was said before... Scale up temporarily to avoid these issues.

Solved the problem: After a while I nearly gave up on fixing the problem. But now I have found the solution. It was not a driver isue as I first thought. After deleting all the drivers and plugging in a generic computer mouse, sketchup would still not zoom when scrolling. So my next step was to question windows 8.1 and I quickly came to the answer: When you install a program that makes it possible to scroll on inactive windows (in my case: katmouse) it can cause this kind of problem. Just thought it was worth sharing.

Hi all, Thanks to all for the interest. Sorry its taken so long to get back to clarifying my query. I went for a 2hr bike sprint yesterday. Ran into an old riding mate. Ended up on an 8 hour ride. Too much coffee. Too much food. Way too much exercise. And way too much sun. Left my metabolics in an uproar. Although completely exhausted, only got about 3 hours sleep. So might be a bit ditzy. When I post, I post only about whats happening to me based upon my limited knowledge at that time. I wouldn't dream of posting about anyone else or how something is working or not working for them. My post of " didn't work" should have clarified as "did't work for me" or "being a newbie, in a constant state of confusion and aw, I didn't understand how it works". Being my first venture into Sketchup, SketchUcation and extensions I could have gotten mixed up on where to download the latest versions from and how to install and how to use each of the extensions. The one extensions I was after was the one that would popup a new small window and list the dimensions. The small window never appeared. Blast! Now testing again, after an iMac boot, and start from scratch, it does work. Nice! Might have been the triple left click to select all, then right click to Make Component (my first), then Extensions | Get Dimensions. Am I supposed to restart Sketchup after Extension Installation? Or reboot? The cut list returned one proper measurement. The other was considerably larger. Reading posts regarding the axis having to be just right might be another reason. Again reading posts regarding Sketchup Extension folder not existing in my iMac HD folder structure lends to the research as well. On Sketchup restart I was getting some sort of debug / error message popping up after I had attempted my newbie extension installs. Removing the extension folder and starting again cleared that up. I have a couple of extensions: Select all Dimensions and Move Dimensions to Layer that I don't know how to work yet bit will sort out as soon as my mind clears. I hope this addresses queries regarding my post and will allow us all to continue in a positive constructive collaboration. Again, many thanks to all interested parties and your patience regarding my newbie status is much appreciated. Barry G. Sumpter
