Welcome 'lurker' Installing Pro8 should retain any of your Free8 personalized additions to Plugins etc. However, if you were to go 'cross-version' then v7 stuff stays in the '7' path and you'd need to copy personal stuff over from any v7 folders into the equivalent v8 folders... Once you have finished your 8Pro trial you can choose to license it and what you had will be retained. Alternatively, if you revert to 8Free you will need to 'uninstall' 8Pro: however, once again any customized files in that installation's folders should be kept and then re-recognized by the new Free8 installation that reuses the existing folders...

@gaieus said: @gareebee said: ...it surprises me that there isn't a means to keep one from installing a single seat over and over. This is called a "floating license". Some software developers take this route while others take a different one (like it has to be deactivated on one machine to activate it on another one - or even locking the license to a certain hardware). Each solution has its advantages and drawbacks (from both vendor's and user's point of view) and also the nature of the software often determines which way to take. TIG cannot use SU on two machines concurrently. Me neither. So there is no high risk of "cheating" here. A renderer may be different. You could be building your scene, tweaking materials whatnot on one machine while rendering a movie on the other. Thus their licenses are usually stricter. That makes sense to me. Like TIG, I only care to use one machine at a time. I will be disposing of the Dell. Now, if I understand correctly...I will need to tell NVidea to handle SU?

Yes, I think there are several plugins that would be helpful here, but... @gaieus said: I mean plugins are great but without learning the basis, one will never be as efficient as possible and once a problem arises, may be just stumped. @Cotty: this helix[sup:1mzq0s1l]helix[/sup:1mzq0s1l] (to finally test our superscript bbCode ) is something stunning! Thank you! @massimo said: Do you know Kito Raupp? Check on youtube, there are many great videos. Yes! I've bookmarked him already

Hello TIG. The author of the plug-in called Proper Animation instructs its users to process the animation created in SU through a rendering application in order to create a proper video of the animation frames. I think Proper Animation is a great tool. Now, I am learning how to use Kerkythea so that I can create the animation .jpeg frames. Everything is going good except I ran into a problem getting the animation frames to reflect the master model (master scene) render settings. The animation frames appear differently than the master model for some of the settings. I posted a topic in Kerkythea's forum and am awaiting a response. I just wanted to share my findings with you and this forum's readers. Thank you for your advice. David

Well, 90% of the students is not bad at all. Altogether 30 is indeed too many though. It's okay for a lecture type of class but not when you interactively need to work with them. In that case, even half is too many. Ideally no more than about a dozen of them - but the fewer the better.

Indeed "Hide rest of model" may be what you are after. More exactly, SketchUp has thisfunction and not necessarily exactly what Max does. You have other options, too, in case you use components (nd only components have these features). Copy a component to somewhere on the side of your model where it is not covered by other elements and work on it - the original copy will "inherit" every modification. Right click on a component and "save as..." Now open the saved file as a separate entity and work on it. Save, go back to the original file and right click on the component again and now "Reload..." More on working with internal and external components can be read here: http://sketchucation.com/resources/tutorials/36-intermediate/115-internal-external-components

You have several materials with 'Asphalt' in their name and all with the same RGBA values BUT each using a different image-file as the texture. Therefore, no material-consolidator is going to change them to be one material. How is it to know that two similar named materials with the same RGBA values BUT with different named image-files should be the same material. The two images might be quite different and their materials' naming coincidental. OK, the repeated image-files do all look the same and have similar names, but without sophisticated techniques beyond the API and Ruby they can't be compared for exactness. You can manually edit one Asphalt material and export its image-file with a simpler name, then edit all similar materials and set them to use that one new file. NOW when you do an image-consolidation ALL of those materials will be seen as the same one and will be consolidated...

I understand that MatchPhoto is recreating a perspective drawing, but once you put those orange and green bars on the photo's parallel features, seems to me that IS recreating it; it finds the vanishing points from those bars. Well, I'll do more photomatches with other photos and see if it still works. I've deleted the problem files! Argh ...when it happens again I'll upload. Thanks!

well, errr. I solved myself. I simply went into the plugins folder of sketchup and deleted the LibFredo folder along with the rb file and and copied back again. And now is working. Thanks in any case

Perhaps a screen shot image of the 'parts' would help us understand the issue, better than us trying it extract it from you [like teeth!], drip by drip...

@tig said: Looks like you've broken SketchUp Can I suggest you close SketchUp and try a 'Repair' on the SketchUp app in the 'Programs and Features' Control Panel... When you restart SketchUp what happens ? Well as usual I feel ridiculous. So simple was the fix that I suspect you may have been winding me up TIG Grabbing the edge to expand the box does nothing to show the layers, but simply clicking in the grey tab at the top! Use a text editor and comment out the offending lines. Try it on a copy first to see what's involved.

As Peter said, if what you are making are groups, you can edit one without affecting other copies no matter what the name is. You won't get an option for Make Unique if the thing you have selected is a group. That's a component thing only. I just made a test file and had no problem changing the name of a copy of a nested group to something else. Are you trying to type the new name in Outliner or in Entity Info? You can't do it in Outliner so if that's where you are trying to do it, it's no wonder it doesn't work. If that's not it, you'll have to provide more information. The SKP file, screenshots, something.

Hi Bob, hi folks. To create a screen shot: On a PC: 1 - Press the Print Screen button on the keyboard. 2 - Open the Paint program (an acessory that comes with Windows). 3 - Paste (CTRL-V). 4 - Save as jpgfile. 5 - Attach to a post here. On a Mac, there is a free application that comes with the OS that is called Grab. Once the picture is grabbed, it is automatically saved to your hard disk, ready to be uploaded as an attachment to a post here. Just ideas.

Wonder if anyone has played around using Sketchy Physics on those awesome skateparks. I hear a maintenance release is due soon and once it gets released I'm dying to give it a try. Simfonia is also worth a look after their excellent presentation at SU Basecamp 2012.
