@dale said: Richard I just added your image to my "Thread for Fine Design" Hope you don't mind. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=382547#p382547 Truly fine design! Dale - you've actually knocked me for six! Thank you for considering this as "fine design" - Must say I ws pretty chuffed with my own solution there, particularly as my first package design and something I actually have little knowledge about, my second will I hope later this year be in the hands of every designer around the world - more on that later!. The client was actually so impressed, feeling that their venture is now to be at a whole new market level and way beyond their expectation. From their thinking and to some degree my attempt - people will be drawn to the package as much as the product! Also that the cuteness will add to the on counter "point of sale" display opportunities. The rough cardboard knockup proved the bottom heavy form sits very stable. The actual size is slightly larger than a clutch purse so the handbag styling suits and very well demonstrates the product intent! Thank you again Dale!

I was looking at the pdf export on my Mac to recall what it does after these posts. If I export the pdf, I get a vector file. If I "print" a pdf it is raster (at least I couldn't get anything out of it by my methods). Printing the pdf is just like other graphic output but exporting you only get geometry with colors (no textures, no background or shadows). For example I exported an elevation.Only the up-front surfaces came through. There was no extra junk from behind the front wall. There were some excess polygons and the stacking needs sorting somewhat (rectangles of the wall color might be covering a window for instance). I found out some other tricks if anyone is trying to use this in a similar program (I used PowerCADD). Set your edge color in SU to something other than black so you can separate them.

@bryan k said: Layout? Wow. I used to do work in print and graphic design. I had no idea Layout was this powerful. Be mindful Bryan - it leaves a LOT to be desired when it comes to working with text - you're pretty much limited to the same abilities as the "post reply" box on the SCF! ie: size, colour and line spacing - no where near the options of most apps. That said it is brilliant for quick layout work but as soon as you want to set text - well it fails. It is though very useful for projects were you don't anticipate or can design around the need for well formatted text!

Just get a large aquarium tank, a few gallons of Flourinert, a pump and radiator and toss all the gubbins in there. Add some blue LED lights for extra cool. Better yet, add a divider so that one half can be water for tropical fish and the heat will help keep them nice and warm.

@richard said: Ok I cant find where I posted the first idea for this but have worked out a simple workaround for locating HDRI offsets in SU for exporting to render apps. I took out the previous process of needing to develop the sun / grid map together externally. Not nailed yet but in general: ROTATORS: Sphere mapped with a Grid (PNG) - the grid would suit the offset parameters of the render app! Sphere mapped with a JPG representation of the HDRI - this is UV mapped with the map relaced on use with that selected (via material edit). A sun that is rotated around the orgin to match the sun location on the above HDRI map. USE: (DO ALL ROTATES WITH MOVE TOOL) Drag in component and explode Replace HDRI with selected Rotate sun (X/Y) to main light sorce on the HDRI sphere Group GRID, HDRI and SUN - "Locator Group" Turn off perspective and orbit scene until objects in scene trace ground shadows as seen from the camera Rotate "Locator Group" until sun covers its own shadow cast. DONE read off the Offset Setting from the grid at the red indicator! ThomThom mentioned this as maybe being a godsent for other apps such as VRAY where the HDRI results cant be previewed. I hope that this might also be developed beyond my limits as a dynamic or ruby assisted process, would be cool. I can imagine once the sun is manually positioned to the HDRI sun all after could be "hit button, choose render app and bang offsets listed, or made available for the exporter plugin to read. Thanks Dale! The tick in the circle has now become their registered trademark, they liked the tick idea so much they wanted it to the name as well, which I wasn't happy with but agreed as long as they agreed that they are NEVER used on a page together as they clash badly!
