 ๐Ÿ˜ฒ ... don't want to be in your shoes ๐Ÿ˜ฎ - 98 brochures, a few weekends and maybe a handful of days off later and it's christmas again and you haven't even got the presents yet!
Just fun of course ๐Ÿ˜„ congratulations on this great job - a great challenge and I'm sure it's exactly your thing and I am already looking forward to your reports at this point...

I know! I was surely wicked in a past life!

    • Subdivision Marketing - Layout Artwork

I picked up another job this time to do the marketing for a small subdivision.

Logo, Plan & Map produced with LayOut.

Now I have to do 98 individual brochures for house and land packages, signage and fencing cloth artwork.

      Nice job mate!!!

Just from a presentation side, I'd probably rather see the windows in dark grey or at least just a colour in lieu of a texture!

    • RE: Exploded Viewports Not Dimensioning Correctly

      @mark beattie said:

      Good day,

Within a Layout file I've exploded certain viewports to adjust linetypes/weights but, after I try to snap any dimension to these lines, they seem to be reading more the size of the paper than any previous assigned scale.

      Can anyone help with this?

      Thanks,

      Mark

If the Sketchup model was inserted as say 1:100 and you explode it, next time you want to dimension the exploded model just set the dimension up as auto-scale 1:100

    • RE: Where to download more Varieties of Layout PNG patterns?

      @davewong said:

I need more sketchup's layout pattern fills. More varieties, like wood-grains pattern, earth/ground patterns etc etc.

May I know where do I get more of it? I have no time to draw them myself ๐Ÿ˜ž

You can easily create them directly in LayOut!

Open a document and set the dimensions of the page to say 200mm x 200mm with NO margin and ensure Print Page Colour is unchecked. Suggest you set the grid as 5, 10 or 20mm so you can reference each edge where the texture will tile.

Draw your texture with lines of required thickness and set line ends to round or square to ensure they pass the edge of the page. Export as PNG as this will provide an alpha background.

Import back into layout as a hatch to check. Adjust line weights on the original and export and test again.

Layout is the ultimate tool to create textures!!!

Mike, these are really good! What render engine did you use here? I wouldn't have minded the girl in the second image to be photochopped in, but the first image is awesome!

    • Island Resort Concept

I posted the first part of this project in the layout forum, figured I'd post the full design outcome here.

I've been asked to prepare a concept design for an Island Tourist Development in Whitsundays of Australia's North.

All buildings (except the original 1800's homestead) are to be removed (no great loss) and replaced with a common guest facility (clubhouse), 8 smallish tourist units and a manager's residence.

      Water Supply: Rainwater Collection
      Potable Water Supply: Desalination Unit
Sewerage: Aerobic Treatment Unit / Onsite Disposal
Energy: PV Panels | Battery Storage | Generator

The site will also support a short 9 hole golf course. BTW, I quite like this style of plan, it's achieved by putting 3 layers of trees and building to a separate layer, exporting the PDF from LayOut with layers on. This is then bought into Indesign, the layers to the PDF are managed and drop shadows added, the PDF is then copy/pasted and the same done for the next layer. Sounds like a big process, but it literally takes minutes.

Tools utilised: LayOut was utilised to draft the plan of the island, design the floor plans and add the title block | SketchUp for modelling | tiny bit of Photoshop | Indesign to add depth to the island plan.

Clean, uncluttered with light effect that doesn't seem natural but is believable, if you get my drift! Excellent graphics, thanks for sharing.

Cheers mate! Yeah I quite like the lighting too, it is just a simple sky dome with no sun or additional lights. It is seriously as lazy as one can get! The subtle tree shadow that adds just that bit of truth is just the tree copied over, blurred and opacity reduced and cropped to the alpha image.

Using greyscale for the landscape again just reinforces my laziness, all sorts of errors there are covered up!

Great job Richard, what is needed without excessive fripperies. Akin to the actor who does a Shakespeare for a thirty second commercial.

Clarity, a very fine thing to have in a presentation.

As always thanks Mike!!! Funny, the render style is normally what I do on plans going to council. On the previous job I did for this same client he suggested he loved the render style and preferred it for marketing. Hence it has since become my best friend!!!!
