Thanks for the tips guys. I couldn't (and can't) post an image of the final result, since there's some secretkeeping of the design involved for now. Perhaps in a few months. Anyway, the biggest problem in this story was mainly the guy who commissioned it didn't quite know what he wanted and inadvertently took it out on me, telling me every time I had rendered something, that it looked wrong. Finally we settled for using a really plain, modelled plank, just plain colour and a simple groove. Thanks for the link Valerostudio, to that arroway thingy. I'm sure it will be useful in a later project I knew the site of course, but I just found out this time around that they have downloadable samples. Quite a handy thing, especially with the people I work with... always changing their minds... As to the creating of bump maps etcetera; I'm quite adept at that already, but it's a nice video to watch nonetheless. Always a pleasure to see someone working at something they're good at.

Try repainting the face with the 'default material' as an intermediate step, this should wipe the projection/uv-mapping and you can start again...

A new use for FEMA trailers. I know that does not translate to Dutch. Don't worry, it is not even funny in the US.

No, I tried. It didn't change. I've 'solved' my problem by working in inches in the Component Attributes. As long as the user sees his own units in the Component Properties (which is the case), it's fine with me, for now. The problem in the second post is more irritating though. But it seems to be OS related, for it happens only on my Win-Vista machine, and not on the mac I borrowed. Sadly, I only have a license on my windows machine, and not on the mac, so I had to put up with the 8 hour time limit. I'm able to put properties on to child components by opening them in such a way that the parent component is not displayed in the Comp. Attr. window. But that sucks, cause I loose the ability to click-reference parent properties. Type type type. Bah.

Yup, CleanUp will do that. I doesn't erase any hidden geometry that define visible faces, as well as edges defining the cut-out shape of a cut-out component.

Hi all, thanks for the kind words Here's a little update. put in a bit of terrain, plus a view that is not precisely accurate, but geographically in the correct region. made some section snapshots added all doors, interior walls and interior doors... chimney is yet to be done. Maybe it's not stone all the way through to the bottom. contemporary projects of his show metal types of heaters+pipes. The jump in the chimney on the second floor supports this theory(see little floor plans at bottom). added exterior textures, plus some detail in the exterior stonework added the little shed in the corner... not sure about that. It's visible both in current and old photographs, but very differently shaped. I'm thinking maybe I should leave it out. What do you think? Just for showing the challenge of it... at the bottom are the drawings I'm working from... no higher res to be found on the WWW. Couldn't find any interior photos either. Neither current, nor old. Thus I have no idea of the materials inside. I'm thinking either a parquet floor or little flowery tiles - both occur in his other work. Or maybe different things on different floors. Thanks all for being my sounding board on this one [image: JGND_chalet009.png] [image: L3Fq_chalet010.png] [image: 9t0L_chalet011.png] [image: nnBG_chalet012.png] [image: wxGz_chalet008.png] [image: EcGq_GXCatllarasPlanolsdistplantes.JPG] [image: lrFU_GXCatllarasPlanolSeccio.JPG]

There's lots of buttons not working within VfSU. They where added by ChaosGroup core - and not the VfSU department.

Hm no not exactly. But I've figured out what went wrong. Sort of. It went like this. Everything was fine until I added a custom variable. At that moment (or some other similar actions), either the parent component or the component itself would jump to a different location. I was baffled at first, but discovered that when I changed the user input, thus forcing SU to recalculate the entire component, everything went back into place. So it's quite irritable to work with, but the error will never occur when the user uses the component

Hi Guys I'm part of the team developing Shaderlight so it's great to hear so many of you are giving the beta a try. As a beta, the software is not yet feature complete however the full release planned for later this year will contain more advanced lighting features as well as our trademark MELT functionality which lets you update certain scene parameters without restarting the render. The full spec can be found here: http://www.artvps.com/content/shaderlight/sketchup/technical-specifications If you do have any comments or suggestions, we'd love to hear them so we can feed them in to the development process. We look forward to hearing from you! Kate
