Kingspan are a major player in the UK construction products market. They've been quietly buying up key sectors for a number of years and have been moving into the modern method of construction MMC a.k.a prefabrication and eco markets more recently. Not familiar with the product but should be a safe company to deal with. You might also like to look at the http://www.zedfactory.com site for other eco innovations.

ok... I found it... you have to select the layers in the pdf while in Adobe acrobat and then right click on the layers and go to properties and lock them and have the show on export.

I haven't forgotten about this... Would it be possible to mark up the 'stick' image to show what is what compared to the .pm file ? It should be relatively easy to extract the XYS data from each entry in the 'imported' .pm file and make geometry/group in a SKP... Not so sure about the 'reverse' exporting...

@unknownuser said: And finally seems Blender or Sculptris has Vertex Paint mode for 0 $ Blender has vertex painting ... somehow LOL. Sculptris no vertex painting at all. It automatically unwraps UVs, it's direct texture painting method. 3dcoat implemented vertex painting recently (directly on voxel meshes) and costs ~$350 , educational version at ~$99 ( it does a lot more things than just painting) Yeah, direct vertex painting. Quality depends on the resolution of mesh. For a equivalent to a 2024x2024 pix map, a ~4M mesh is needed. A ~8M is even better. Here, zbrush is the winner. Millions of poly running on a cheap hardware. In any case, for exporting all these, you have to retopo-decimate the mesh, make UVs, bake on textures.

@krisidious said: that seems to get pretty close. I'm going to play around with it. What Charly posted looks good and conversion to dae and then to MeshLab looks OK also=> for quick check. Suggestion: Contact the seller and see if they will convert your posted test jpg since you may be interested in buying a license ? => just as an eval. test. My guess they will want you to re-scan that image to tif , not re-sample. The key to success is to have a clean image to start and if you have a number you want to convert you will have to factor that into your plans. If you can get to a somewhat decent SU ( then Dae) then Meshlab may be used to remove T vertices etc. I could not clean you ordinal test jpg to a clean level to work with.

Yeah I'd love to play with this option, though I can't understand the lingo of much of the tips and seems you have to dig around everywhere to find the right info. Little is up to date! Plus the proposed use for commercial works attract massive licensing fees.

Hi Kris, try this link to a video of how to get larger images out of GMaps. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1073912/google_maps_hack_how_to_save_large_maps/ What I do is go to GMaps, switch to satalite mode and zoom to where I need optimum detail then run the process. It's a but of trial and error at first [to get the required amount of image you need] but is a great trick. I found it on the Digital Urban website http://www.digitalurban.org/ Good source of info across the board with SU and urban design.

What I see is the CaCO3 fills the voids, creates a temporary barrier against liquid water intrusion, but is susceptible to long term degradation. This may be more economical than specially treated and coated steel reinforcement, such as polymer coating, which is an option. Stainless steel reinforcement bars and galvanized are other options. There are pretreatments for concrete to enhance water "resistance".

Back on topic. I have found an interesting speech by Vijay Kumar on applications of small flying robots. The most interesting for me was the one with a robot calculating a 3D map of a building, as it surveyed it in real time. http://www.ted.com/talks/vijay_kumar_robots_that_fly_and_cooperate.html

@tomsdesk said: Bruce, Seems to me you've hit the trifecta...community service, interesting SU work, and a paying client! (I'd call it the lottery if the project passes and you get the "how can we make it ok with the neighbors" contract as well! :`) I'm with Tom. I happen to think ethanol is a boondoggle, but that is not the issue here. SU is a great tool to show how things fit together and how things can be made to fit well together. I'd keep in mind that it's just as easy to lie with pictures as it is with statistics and you do have an ethical obligation to not make things look better or worse than they really are.

well, to me... seeing that I am one... I aspire to be professional in a lot of ways... but aboveall... no pun intended, originality and giving credit to others work, not taking it for your own, contributing new knowledge to the industry... so many 3D artists in the gaming world and rendering world use other peoples models, and then take credit for it... normally from one program to another... if you frequented 3DMax forums you could use their models, convert them, paint them, and so on... and then take credit for it, and the chances of anyone knowing are slim... this happened to me while building a racing simulator... I Can't say who I worked for, I had to sign NDA's but EA's SIM Racing and rFactor we're involved... and there were lawsuits flying... all over who's model was whose... and how they went about proving it was interesting... anyway I digress... I think a Pro is someone who brings something to the table...

Another vote here for "carbonite". Very cheap for the amount of storage you can get and its been a life saver for me on a couple of occasions. Also a handy feature is that you can remotely access all your backed up files no matter where you are in the world. Handy when you realise you left that all important client presentation back at home when your a thousand miles away!! Data recovery specialists seem to be a licence to print money. I've never known anyone that has been able to recover data from a wiped/trashed hard drive. All you ever get is a large bill!

There's also the other way, Go Window/Outliner (or whichever dialog you want to put the focus on) then hit alt and space then m then any arrow key and move the mouse around until the dialog comes into view.
