valerostudio, so you suggest adding reflection layer, setting its color to ~50 and then using the Transparency in Diffuse layer?

Hi everyone, Sorry for my english. First the nomenclature VFB (Vray Frame Buffer) .vrimg - VFB saved image format The problem is easy to solve Follow these steps: **1-go to the address (PC \ Users \ "YourUser") and you will see the .vrimg files that have been saved in the VFB 2-look for the last file that has been saved, and put them in another folder or delete 3-open Sketchup and VFB and try again to open the history - Solved 4- If the problem continues only check the .vrimg files that are saved in PC \ Users \ "YourUser" to see which of them is that they have to remove** This has happened 2 or 3 times in very large and heavy files that I have saved while still rendering, the file is damaged for unknown reasons and the VFB no longer responds until the damaged file is deleted I hope this works for you

The scene is no longer useful in v8. Your GPU handles textures and styles while 1 core of your CPU handles geometry. So you want a good reliable GPU and a CPU with a high clock speed. -Brodie

@gaieus said: I do not often use this export option but it seems to export vector based data which does not contain shadows. May I assume that if you have pdf export options, you also have SU Pro? In this case, you could send your model to LayOut and export from there in hybrid mode which will make your edges vectors but materials (and shadows) remain raster so you get the "best of both". Thank you for this suggestion. Yes, one does get the "best of both".

A higher end computer will of course render faster. Could be the type of RAM and the speed of processor. You are comparing apples to oranges really.

My suggestion is find a view without the fence blocking the house and pick a good sun location/time of the day so you have a better shadows for your render.. Another one is pick another shade that will compliment your brown color but will stand out with the rest of the colors... Play around with the materials and colors and you'll surely have a wonderful scene here.... allanx

the model is at 49.190966N,16.611552E so the UTC+1 time zone should be fine - the shadows appear correctly at rendertime, i just miss them in the preview. no other view mode (shaded/textured/monochrome...) brings them back. as for the toggle - as is seen on the screenshot, only the 'From Edges' option switches its state. EDIT: ha, i found the solution; see attached screenshot. thanks everyone for answers [image: 6xRI_SU-shadows-resolved.png]

oh hi, if you scroll up and find the image with red circles and numbers that i posted, then i found what number 2 is - it's apparently called a 'terminator problem' and a description of it could be found for example in this blender change-log (with images). for those interested, the more technical view is in this PDF, which is also cited in that blender article. the most detailed description i could find was in the Thea forums in this thread (with images). so, since sketchup doesn't have Subdivision modifiers (only SDS plugins, which however are a) paid and b) create solid hi-poly geometry), this is apparently an issue of shader coding and the solution lies on the shoulders of the developers... ping, dkendig? EDIT: and another technical PDF with the description of the problem (and apparently some solution, too)

Hi Adam, 1 - Yes. After SketchUp is finished loading, open the Ruby Console from the Windows menu. Type in: require_all("e:/plugins") (Assuming your portable plugins are on a device named e:\plugins.) 2 - Not exactly. You should be able to save and restore your toolbar positions on the school computer. After you load your portable plugins and organize your toolbars, use the Save Toolbar Positions item in the View > Toolbars menu. Then next time you load your portable plugins, you can use the Restore Toolbar Positions item. Note: not all plugins will work correctly from a location outside SketchUp's default plugins folder.

When you use high quality settings for IM (subdivisions and such) you're starting to loose detail, geometry is "floating". Lower the settings, or, use detail enhancement, or, my favorite one, use AO. Cheers!

no, that's exactly what i'm not asking (although i have been trying to resolve the issue in another thread, about this time last year.) what i would want is this: i press the render button and if i hit Esc (which should stop the rendering process) or the render finishes, it saves the render (or whatever is in the framebuffer at the moment of cancellation) to a previously specified folder with a name for example autosave0000.png. then when i hit render again (to see how my material changed), the file saved would be autosave0001.png. or it could use a timestamp or i don't know what. hm, but i guess this is a work for a separate script, rather than a matter of settings in vray...

@onzki said: Hi, I bet many have asked or noticed this already- the "reset color" in material editor is greyed out since I installed Vray, now it's hard to revert to original texture after playing around with sliders. Also, my textures was automatically saved and renamed into a temp folder (Chaos Group), not a big deal though.. Have someone figured out how to unlink Vray from overriding my materials control? I appreciate any help, I'm really hoping to get the "reset color" button working again. Thanks a lot! PS: (to Admin) If this is the wrong section, please move it. thanks! This is something you should report to the V-ray for SketchUp developers so they can address it. (Also, it's useful to include V-Ray and SketchUp version when asking questions like this given how different version may act differently.)
