Hi Paul, What you are experiencing here is because the two arcs were different polylines. When these segments are not welded together into one, single polyline, when extruded to 3D, they will always leave these unsmoothed edge on the sides. You can try to draw a 24 segmented polygon, PushPull it into 3D and you will see the difference as opposed to a "real" circle. You can soften the edges with the Ctrl Eraser afterwards -like Chris suggests - and this is most often fine but sometimes, when you have more segments or want to perform more operations,it may be better to weld those lines/curves into one entity. This is what the plugin "Weld.rb" is good - and invaluable - for (I think most "old" users even forget it doesn't originally belong to SU).

Dear Jean, I have only just picked up your reply, hence the delay. I am still using SU6 at work, and that might be the reason why I can only set the segment number to 1000 or less. Using the scale tool is a clever idea, but then you're a clever chap. Thanks for the tip. Kind regards, Bob

I'm guessing it's to do with how the transformations are controlled, i.e. you basically have to do it by eye. As for the 2nd part of your question, i think fredo is the best person to answer that. Perhaps post in the original thread, more likely to be noticed there id imagine.

For the line disconnect.reconnect, generally you would just delete the line in the unwanted place and then re-draw it to the desired location. If that deletes a face that you don't want deleted, then that means you have to leave the line where it was because it is making the face. In that case, leave the line there and then just draw in a new one. The line style is controled in the "Styles" palette. Go to the menu Window>Styles and it should pop open a styles dialog box. In there go to "Edit" and then make sure you are on the edge settings (its the first of the small icons). And you can change a few of the edges settings there. You can also apply different styles of edges to the model by going out of the edit tab, back to the select tab. Click on the down arrow in the window and choose sketchy edges. Then click on any of the shown styles to apply it to the model. Then you can go back to edit and change some of the edge settings there. Hope that helps, Chris

@murkin said: ...But there is one other thing, how do you find the geometry that you don't need inside a small model after it is completed? Well, I rather try to do it "on the fly". When you create a profile on the edge of the guitar with the Follow me tool, you will know that there'as a face inside that you won't need. Delete it immediately. Or in this case, I just "opened" the guitar by removing its top face and found what I found inside. X-ray mode and unhiden geometry can also help finding these unnecessary pieces of geometry.

@akibobot said: I can't practice either Google Sketchup 6 of Google Sketchup 7 on my laptop. It used to work then but suddenly an error came and it kept going and going like that even though I tried to install and re-install. here's the prompt from my Windows Vista OS laptop SKETCHUP APPLICATION HAS STOPPED WORKING A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. damn, I really need to learn Sketchup, I need it in my daily job, lolz. How could I practice if it is not working in my laptop. Somebody help me...tnx. Bobot, I'm sorry to hear of your problem, but I'll try to help. Are you saying that both SU6 and SU7 are installed on your machine, but neither one works now? Let's start with SketchUp 7. When you reinstalled, did you download the newest available file directly from Google? Free: http://dl.google.com/sketchup/GoogleSketchUpWEN.exe Pro: http://dl.google.com/sketchup/GoogleSketchUpProWEN.exe To make sure you're running the newest version, please use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7. Hover over SketchUp.exe. The tool-tip text should show the following: Description: Google SketchUp Company: Google, Inc. File Version: 7.0.10247.0 If you find you don't have the right version, or if you think you may have installed a file that you got from somewhere other than dl.google.com, try uninstalling SketchUp, and then reinstall it from one of the links above. You may be able to solve some problems by running the program as administrator. That shouldn't be necessary, but the support folks tell me that they have seen some problems for Vista users where the program doesn't work properly from non-admin accounts. To test this theory, right-click on SketchUp.exe and choose "Run as administrator". Unfortunately, if you really are having problems with both SU6 and SU7, it is almost certainly a problem with your operating system installation or a rogue piece of recently installed software corrupting files that are required for SketchUp. SU6 and SU7 can both run on the machine simultaneously without any problems and there is no overlap between them for what is installed into the Program Files directories. If they're both broken, it probably means something external to SketchUp is the cause. Try the steps I mentioned and let me know how it goes. Andrew

Hi h4zel Forceware version 169.21 should certainly work out for you. Google search for this and you'll get the download. I had this same problem with my 8600GT & 8800GT cards in my home & office computers respectively. The problem disappeared after I installed this older version of drivers (Windows XP). Hope this helps. With best regards PRSS

@gaieus said: I could imagine a DC "stretching" in a certain direction then you could explode it and use drop.rb to get all the nested pieces onto the ground. Would that be "enough"? Note that it couldn't be modified afterwards so this is a final (and non reversible, destructive) way. I think in this situation the drop.rb plugin could be used in a non destructive way. Instead of exploding the DC, it could just be edited by double-clicking on it. I threw together a test file and screen capture. Kevin, I would be curious if this would be a reasonable solution. Scale the DC in the attached skp, then edit it, then apply the drop.rb plugin (also attached just in case you don't have it). Sorry, forgot to record mouse cursor in screen capture. [flash=720,405:10e8y6vn]http://www.youtube.com/v/cUAcXObu2mQ&fmt=22&hl=en&fs=1[/flash:10e8y6vn] *edit I should add that this only really works as long as the z attribute is not formula derived (black) Regards, Matt Chambers concept3D solartest.skp drop.rb

Marin, It's important to be as accurate as possible when creating surfaces. The manner your floor displayed (flashing surfaces) suggest geometric problems with its construction. I raised the non-floor surfaces, recreated the ground surface, replaced the non-floor surfaces, and the floor stopped flashing. [image: pY9s_temp.jpg] One rule is to avoid using the line tool to create surfaces (unless the surface is a triangle). When some non-coplanar surfaces are joined, their combined surfaces may take on the appearance of a single surface until you attempt to orbit, or render. When you draw coplanar surfaces, pay attention to the colored axis of the surface that is being drawn. When you have two non-coplanar surfaces separated by a space, and if you draw a surface between them (using each of the original surface end points to create the joining surface), unless the original 2 surfaces are perfectly coplanar, the combined three surfaces may resemble, but not be a proper surface.

@unknownuser said: Looks as if I have lost the ability to make components. Recieved the following error code, however, not a bug splash. Google I hope your out there. Thanks in advance for your help. Ken Ken, Unfortunately, this is a very generic error message that is generated by the Windows runtime system, not by SketchUp. It may reveal a bug in SketchUp, but it also may be a configuration problem with your machine. I can try to look into this, but I need a lot more details. What version of Windows? What version of SketchUp? When did the problem start occurring? Have you upgraded the system recently or installed any other applications? (That is important because another application might have accidentally modified the C++ runtime libraries, which would adversely affect SketchUp). Please also provide a specific list of steps to perform that result in seeing the error. If possible, save the model before you perform the action and send it to me in a PM so I can try it on our systems. Thanks, Andrew

Thanks all... It appears that my new IE8 installation wasn't "all the way" completed. Instead of selecting "Ask me later" with my latest update attempt - I let it "install" the default settings... All working now. Thanks again. But there is some chatter about IE8 and SWF... not applicable here though.
