Well, in V-Ray the dispalcement has a very weird result, you think subdividing the mesh will make the dispalcement work? Also, what is the max polycount per model that SU can handle, is it better to break up a large model into segments or import it as a hole?

Well I figured it out by myself...theres a little options button in the export dialog box that I never saw before. Now that I have found that I can now really start using sketchup for my maps and scene backdrops (for D&D games).

you know I just realised.. I did'nt show why I needed this.. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3201/2738256377_ab04f8f13a_o.jpg my on going TARDIS project.. modeled and rendered in trueSpace 4.3.. until I got stuck doing the pipes. but with Jim's Importer and your Fix Remus, I can use SU's lovely abilities to just snap pipe sections together to carry on...

Also note that if you turn X-ray render mode on,you can select edges and points "through" faces that would otherwise obscure your view. So X-ray is not "just a cool 'glass rendering' display mode but can have practical uses as well.

what software are you using to color the model with? most great material renderings are done outside of SU!

Hi dbrabham Just a couple of questions: Is there a prize/reward for undertaking this work for you? What sort of copyright protection do entrants have over their designs? With reference to the question above, is there an agreement in place whereby you can only put a design into manufacture once as a product of this competition, or will you be mass producing the winning designs? Sorry for the questions but there are no terms and conditions on your site.

Sorry for any confusion, I am rendering the model with vray. I usually always model each piece of siding with the correct profile (via one profile and scaling the component), makes for better shadow lines and faster render times vs. doing a bump or displacement map. Soooo I guess I really dont know my question, maybe I answered it. I guess if anyone has any other ideas on a more efficient way of doing it.

You can change the axes (Tools menu > Axes) but the align view will always be related to the original world axes. If you "set up" your building however correctly, this generally doesn't cause a problem because the view will still be somewhat "natural".

I don't see what materials have to do with lights. And you can easily create the impression of multiple lights without out using a rendering application. [url=https://flic.kr/p/cozi9u] [image: 7475383736_f5f806bf1f.jpg]

For them that don't like adding plugins and is a little easier then @unknownuser said: mothod of Jean Lemire » June 19th, 2009, 7:33 am Here is a SU (SU way) 2D Multiple Face Extrusion It can be done Thus By makeing a 3d base volume ancher then use the move tool. Like this [image: maTZ_duke07Apr.2704.16.jpg] Trick or skill: Alot of plug-in can be done in sketchup with some insight. Also you can unlock the axes of the move tool with the arrow keys too.
