Skindigo is the Indigo renderer, with a SketchUp plugin written by Whaat (Dale Martens) who is a regular on this forum. There are many who love it. Indigo is currently in the process of becoming a non-free renderer. I think they said the old version will always be free, but the new version is not cheap 595 euros starting February 1st.

Here is a quick and effective method of creating an artistic image from your SketchUP model. It was posted way back in 2005 on the original SU forum. The thread became so popular, it was active for over a year and a half and still could be found here http://groups.google.com/group/pro-gallery/browse_frm/thread/ac10461fa662ede0/2181e36017e1604fq=dennis+method+review&lnk=ol& . I finish my tutorial : So after you can open it into Sketchup, you will have perhaps some things to do like re-textured some very little parts of your object or character, little details then... To use this into well textured 3ds, you need to have the pro version of shetchup which permit to export into 3D Studio (.3ds). This last registering into 3ds permit to have a well textured object. So for resume, for having well textured object you have to pass by several steps : DAZ Studio --> .obj Accutrans --> to register first time into 3ds SU --> to register second time into 3ds = well textured object 3ds !!! That's i use and it works very well !!! But may notice that the characters are often heavy in sizes into 3ds and obj. DAZ studio sell a little plugin with DAZ called DECIMATOR, you can easily use it in order to put off or hide some polygons.

I have recently bought it in a bundle but haven't played with it yet however as far as I know, it will only export the camera viewports. But now as I am thinking about it - in LayOut (as you are planning to use it maybe), you can adjust your viewport to any size and when you export the image with transparent background, it's already a piece of cake to select the transparent channel, invert selection and crop to selected area. OR you can install CubicPanoOut (see in the ruby library depot) and it will adjust your viewport width or height to any set size so you can export easily. (Or render with Kerkythea or Twilight - I know both can export batch render at given exact size and also a clipmask render to apply in post pro - maybe other renderers can also do it easily.)

Unfortnately the link got mangled. Ah yes, I'm a bit of a history geek and much prefer the old monikers to be honest; Caer Ebrauc, Eboracum, Jorvik, Yorke etc!

Scott, Modelhead, Thank you very much - some great recommendations there. It is clear that Photoshop (or it's various cousins - I'm on a Mac and using Gimp, Pixelmator etc.) is pretty essential. I have had some success with Gimp by taking a basic board, and copying/modifying it in various ways to create larger panels. Gimp's Liquid resixe and bump maps help create some pretty good looking images that then serve fairly well for the size of furniture I am working with at the moment.

I like the Lines2Tubes.rb plugin, for quick rendering, but prefer the tubes to be copies of a "master" tube component. With the master tube-component axes aligned to the model-space axes, I can scale different tubes to custom lengths. To make all the tubes fatter or thinner, I simply modify the "contents" of the master component, editing in its context. (...BUT, it requires a LOT more effort!) Now, if I could only have the "best of both worlds." [image: StI2_10V_radome.png] Taff

Best methods for doing so? Thanks ! Make a grouped punching shape for the door as a box that extends through the wall, move it into place. Perfect, many thanks, worked great.

@mitcorb said: If the microscopic camera is a whack idea, I don't think is such a whack idea at all, but, could it not be implemented as a 'Scene Style' SU can already change pretty well everything else through styles, you can even drag an old styled drawing into a new one. I for one already use a testing style, a watertight style , a rendering style all in one drawing, so having a `Let's Get #nnal' would be one approach. If drawing in that environment everything 'off screen' could have a scale factor applied to it and so when I input 20 microns radius, SU just scales it up by 'X' (behind the scene), once small geometry is drawn, I've never noticed SU to reject it, so, you could then import/export from any style... is this whack??

@honoluludesktop said: Sorry for the beginners question, but can someone tell me how the first vertex in a face is determined? Is it the point of insertion? Guess the direction of the face is then related to the sequence in the array? 1) Front or back visible when drawing a rectangle is determined by the direction the diagonal is going. Not by first and second click. 2)It also depends in which axes plane you are drawing. Just 1) and 2) determine front and back for new rectangles not touching other rectangles. Otherwise they tend to inherite their orientations. (Circles and polygons follow different rules) See attached file Face_orient.skp with the diagram. Try it to see what happens when. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=509c2a6868ab3855b2dd3120ca5e0662

Ruby in layout has been suggested, but so far no one has really given any good ideas of what ruby should be able to accomplish. I think this is a great example of something ruby would be useful for in LO. Chris

When I look at Anssi's posted image, the component on the right is flipped, but the orientation of the section arrows aren't. Isn't this the indication of the reversed section's direction. Shouldn't the flipped component arrows point the other way. Btw, my ignorance is probably the result of not working with sections at all. Maybe I don't understand the question:-(
