    • Realtime 3D viewing?

      Hey all,

I had a question regarding the viewing of objects in 3d (as opposed to creating 3d objects). I suppose this is in part arising from having seen Avatar recently πŸ™‚

I was wondering if there was any facility or plugin which would allow a user to view an object in 3d whilst working - the old red/green malarkey doesn't really cut it and would mess with colours but I have been very impressed with modern approaches which show a pretty accurate representation of the image.

I have been creating stereographs (two images taken a few inches apart and then viewed in a cross-eyed manner) which works superbly for stills especially after rendering but I was wondering if there was something using glasses or similar that would effectiveky allow me to see in proper 3 dimensions as I am creating & editing my sketchup models.

Maybe I'm asking for something that is a few years ahead of what's capable or maybe there are serious technical issues involved but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I did search the forum and there are lots of references to 3D that I can see but not regarding real time viewing in 3D.

      Cheers

      Paul

    • Diagonal slice through extruded tube?

      Hi there,

I'm Paul from N Ireland, this is my first post!

I'm a designer of musical instruments and I've been using Sketchup for the past couple of months. I've only really had a chance to familiarise myself with it over the Christmas break (it's addictive) but I'm still very much a beginner. Why didn't I find this years ago? - it would have saved my clients putting up with my poor sketching abilities πŸ˜„

I'm trying currently to create a tube with an angled cut in it, I have managed to demonstrate the effect using the section plane tool - see attached image, but I'm unsure how I make this a permanent edit.

I've looked through the forum archives and the sketchup help but I'm drawing a blank - I'd appreciate your help and guidance.

      Many thanks

      Paul
