Thanks for your reply, about the SP cylinder, I want to animate an SU cylinder with Proper Animation but It doent work for me most of the time. But by using the SP cylinder tool it will animate properly most every time. The advantage of making an SU cylinder is that I can set the number of sides and the dimensions as its made. There must be something different in the way an SP and SU cylinder is made or in the way I do it.

There are several tools around - do a search... For example my '2D Tools' include an 'Adjust Tool' [which also works in 3D] - you select sets of edges and sets of targets and they adjust their ends to suit - trimming or extending. The '2D Tools' also include a 'Fillet Tool' [which also works in 3D] that does the same thing if the arc's radius = 0 [default], thereby trimming or extending picked pairs of lines to a common vertex... Otherwise you can use it to 'fillet' or 'chamfer' pairs of edges...

Troy there are NO dumb questions only dumb answers I would be ashamed to show you how I STILL do some SU manipulations. Part of the habits developed since SUv1 but I am gradually changing the habits Mike

When you shared the model to the 3DW are you sure the box "Google Earth Ready: this 3D model is real, current and correctly-located." was checked? On your My Models page of the 3DW, there are options for All Models, Pending Google Earth Models etc. Which options does you model show up with?

@jhearcht said: In SketchUp 6.4.265 I find most functions to be simple and intuitive. But the snapping function is the single most frustrating thing about trying to draw with in 3D. I am used to the sophisticated snapping constraints in my CAD application, which also does 3D, but with hardware intensive solid objects. It allows me to turn-off certain kinds of snap objects, such as "endpoint outside active", so the inference engine will ignore them, and snap only to the things I'm interested in. Apparently I'm the only one with this problem, because my searches in Help, Forums, and Tutorials find very little discussion of how the snapper operates, or how you can control what it jumps to. Am I missing something in SU? Does SU7 have any snapping improvements? You cannot toggle or control the nascent SU snapping. It is something you learn to watch and especially look for multiple snap points at your target. Make sure you have the snapping turned off in the model info, units dialog. Unfortunately even in the wire frame view you can still snap to hidden points although geo itself is not selectable in this view when hidden

I think if you go to this url and click on the date on the bottom it will make the connection. Better test it out first though. http://www.brightideasconsultants.com/Calendar.html The session is from 9:0 to 10:00 ( I assume Colorado time (mountain standard)

the way i approach this is to create 2 end caps and a middle component. then i can calculate the length of the gridbeam constrained to the block size and count the number of middle components to copy. see attached. to use a different size you could adjust the size value noting that the holes will scale accordingly. or re-size each component manual and adjust the holes and positions etc. if the size of each is not a cube, you might need another attribute to handle the different dimension. e.g. if the sign post is 3x3 but the height is 2, the calculation needs to know the height of 2... in my model it assumes all 3 dimensions are the same. to neaten it up i hide the edges on the ends and middle which face each other. i took out the inner geometry as it will overload quickly when lot's of these are used in a model. But you can export as PNG and then convert it to openEXR with another application like this http://scanline.ca/exrtools/ http://www.hdrlabs.com/picturenaut/index.html You could perhaps automate if with Ruby API for the PNG and auto-make/execute a CMD/BAT file to convert that to EXR... Here's an on-line converter - most image formats to EXR !!! http://image.online-convert.com/convert-hdr-exr

@davidboulder said: If you want to do it all in SketchUp. place the image in one window, scale, it and then use the eye dropper to paint to grab the texture to pain in other windows. Then one by one make each texture unique (I don't think you can do that with multiple selection). Once unique you can export the texture as an image. Now THAT's a tip!
