Hi yna and welcome! With the Pro version you can export your model (2d or 3d) into various vector based formats so yes, into revit or acad, too. If you want to print it in high definition, at the bottom right of your print dialog you can set the quality or even check "Use high accuracy HLR" which will print it vector based. There are a bunch of CAD programs that can even import SU files flawlessly, check out DoubleCAD for instance (it has a quite feature rich, free version with an option for a 30-day trial of the pro functions but you can opt out of it). http://www.doublecad.com/

Well, all I can say is that you must have low standards if you think my figure looks nice. So here are a few Wenge materials. Both 8-1/2 feet long. [image: OmAt_Wenge18half.jpg] [image: 21qF_Wenge38half.jpg] I have several longer ones but they're more than 1600 pixels and not uploadable here.

Apparently the linking problem was related to group materials. After experimenting with diffent settings, it works fine now.

@gaieus said: Hi mhyst, As Pilou mentioned for your wish-list post, try UV Tools: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=23725 It has a spherical and a cylindrical projection tool, too. Best would be to export the parts first and experiment with them "outside" the file then re-inmport them. Thank you very much. I'll try

Hi folks. Make sure that you disable length snapping in Model infos --> Units. It may create unwanted snaps on an invisible grid that may not match your intended intervals. Since SU can accept precise values and its inference engine is also precise, I don't use this feature. Just ideas.

Definitely go along grouping every individual part that you can just think of (or even better, as Mike says, you can use components, too). With just a moderately complex model you will be soon lost without grouping - not to speak about the complete inability to use layers (and scenes with them) to easily manage visibility either for presentational or even just modelling reasons.

Yes, I do have it, but I thought it was the fixed version. I'll look for the offending UI:beep or UI::beep.

TIG, true, white fog can work in many cases. For my elevations I want to keep a blue sky, and if I use a white fog my sky disappears. If I use a blue fog to keep my sky, I get a blue color cast on my elevations. Another technique I use is to create a rendering of my building as a png with sky and ground off so I can get a mask of the building itself. Then I can drop a sky in with Photoshop using the profile mask made from the png; but the reason I favor rendering out a fog vs. building mask is that I can get more control over the effects of depth and can also use curves or levels in Photoshop to manipulate the distance falloff effect.

True, section planes can display animation (for the information however; you also need to set up two of them just like with the drawers). YouTube - SketchUp: Creating section animations with scenes [flash=480,385:1avec9xk]http://www.youtube.com/v/-sQ-7dt95yw?fs=1&hl=en_GB[/flash:1avec9xk]

@sketchyarchitect said: hey you probably already know this and it may not help you, but you can compress the size of a sketchup model by copying everything in your sketchup file (ctrl a) and pasting it in a new sketchup file.then save the file. you'll notice the decrease. Depending on file size this can reduce the size to a tenth of what it was. that sounds like a weird round about way to purge your model (basically, gets rid of all unused materials, component instances, etc).. window-> model info-> statistics -> purge unused

Hi, First... Sorry but i don't speak english very well ! (or... i must say i don't speak english at all !!!!) When you move one object over another object (the 2 object corners are touching each other) , for exemple, you move a cube#1, selecting a corner and you drop it (move it) until the corner is touching a corner from cube#2, there is no problem... You can zoom at maximum, the 2 corner of the cubes are always at the same point (same place). Now you repeat the same operation but before you move the cube, you make a group (or component) with each cube... You can move cube#1 (corner from cube#1) on the cube#2 (corner from cube#2) selecting "end of component" or "end of group" to snap... but when you make a zoom at maximum, you see that the 2 corners are not at the same place !!!! The difference is very very small... but you see that the 2 corners are'nt in a same location. I have search for a long time because this "detail" is for me not acceptable... But... now if you explode the two group (after you have move them) and after that you zoom at the maximum, the 2 corners are NOW in the exact and same location... Conclusion : when you work with component or group, visually Sketchup can't display the object at the right place... The object (group or component) are in the right place but when you make a big zoom, Sketchup cannot display them correctly... Sorry... I hope you understand what i mean...

These exporters install somehow separately (don't ask how and why as I don't know) and sometimes improperly so while SU seems to work just fine, they do not but it only turns out once you need them. I did not really know if it'd be a solution but have read it a couple of times thus the suggestion.

I see I am stuck in my ways as most of the software I use is similar to Mac in that I can open multiple files in the same instance. Maybe this post belongs in the Duh thread or even in Beginners Tips... Thanks
