For some reason my posts aren't getting through, so apologies if this is repeated. That does look like a lot of work - I have quite alot of areas that need positioning. Attached is what I wanted to achieve.[image: tIVX_texture.jpg]

Layers in SU are NOT like layers in CAD. In SU layers only control visibility -- they do not separate geometry. ALWAYS draw on Layer 0. If you want, say, to make the floors appear one by one in a buildup. Group the first floor, THEN move that group to Layer 1, Group second floor, then move to layer 2, etc. Make scenes where the appropriate layers are hidden or revealed as you move from scene to scene.

@unknownuser said: wow, i really screw this thread up.. i meant to make a new post that quoted some of what i wrote in my previous response but i ended up editing that post instead.. so, my last post may not make much sense in the threaded order.. sorry. regardless, maybe autosave is causing 1/2 of my crashes ?? Jeff, try it with autosave on, and autosave off, and compare the amount of crashes. see which works best for you. I did that a long time ago, and OFF works best for me. Either way, keep on sketchupping.

@Jean That is writed v6 but it is in fact v8 so the suspense is total for me @Jeff Maybe you must multiply scale by 10 000 then make the rotation for win some decimal?

I use this method frequently for turned legs and such. For example, this turned post is made of eight sectors as shown on the right. The nice thing is that it saves out at about 43 Kb. [image: 5169372316_db2dce793a.jpg]

I'm sorry, Jim57, I was being a little facetious, but trying to get at your issue. I failed to notice you are using a Mac, and assumed this was a MSWindows problem. I am glad that Jeff and HDT were able to help. Best Wishes, mitcorb

This is true for all SketchUp tools that are context-sensitive: they won't show up in the shortcuts editor unless the appropriate context is activated, e.g. by selecting an edge, face, group, or component.

I'd use 2d cutouts of players. There will be a lot of usable images on flickr under "high school football".

Imported files can also be "fixed" - there's just a couple of things to take care: when importing, check out the import options and make sure NOT to preserve drawing origin. While there, make sure to import with the correct scales finally if the imported group has its origin somewhere etremely out - it can happen if there is some reference geometry there in the original CAD file - delete that geometry, explode the group and while everything is selected, regroup again. Always a good way to use Zoom extents (Shift+Z) to see how "large" your model is. If you seem to zoom out too far away, there is some problematic geometry somewhere. Press Ctrl+A to select all and see what is highlighted blue (beside your model) to identify the culprit.

@thomthom said: I'd separate the ground by itself, would i do that by drawing a large rectangle and then making that rectangle a component? then I can start building on top of it? @thomthom said: draw a rectangle on the wall-face, select the face and it's edges (doubleclick) and then "Make Component". Then in the dialog you get ensure that "Replace Selection" is checked as well as cut opening. so after I draw the window, do I cut out the opening and then make it a component? thank you all for the info. I will definitely start to use components.

Thanks Chris. The Orbit tool worked fine again when I turned off the V-Ray plugin. But why this just when V-Ray is acitvated? Is there something in V-Ray that I could change to get the Orbit tool to work more smooth? Thanks!

Hi folks. After drawing the arc, add a line between the two end, creating a face. Pull the face as required. Delete two straight lines and you are left with a curved surface. However, this is a face without any thickness. If you need thickness, use some of the methods proposed in this thread. Just ideas.

Hi Andy, I think it“s possible: right click - entity info - uncheck "cast shadow" box.

You are missing the second step in the Tutorial... Get the mesh face THEN make it a Solid - to do this draw some vertical lines down from the four corners and then some horizontals the form a faced solid object. Move the flat bottom face up so the minimum height corner is quite small otherwise you'll get lots of rectangular slices at the base! A flat-ish cuboid with a 'wavy top' if you will... NOW group it all and use the Slicer tool on that group. It should now 'slice' OK... Slicer won't make slices of a single surface mesh because there is literally nothing to slice! There is Slicer's stablemate 'ContourMaker' that will make contours lines through the mesh... but these aren't 'slices'
