Ok i found the solution : the first images have to be on the top of the final hi-res image and then pick up the captures by going to the bottom.. Then no problem

I'm starting to use a tablet and the right-click context menu having the basic functions would be terrific. functions like Move, Push/pull, Rectangle, circle, etc.

oh and back on-topic; hellnbak; have you tried using the material-picker? if you've already applied the material somewhere in your scene, and you know where, you can use paintbucket+alt to pick up the material in order to apply it

Thanks, Jeff, this looks like just the ticket. However, I can't help wondering why a tool that's smart enough to know that my group is not a solid can't highlight the reason why and offer the option to fix it. Once again, a plugin patches the program. Somewhat disillusioned, Jim

Well, first I was looking for that checkbox myself. And I know others did as well so I was pretty sure that you had the same issue we did. You just came later.

Hi folks. The "Follow me" Tool can be used to make a profile follow such a path. Just make sure that you do not generate facets that are too small to fill. If this is the case, draw larger and scale down when done. Just ideas.

Thanks for the feedback on SketchyPhysics, Gaieus. I suspected that might be the case, which is why I didn't spend a lot of time creating a model and experimenting with the possibilities.

You can always split a component into smaller, separate pieces (subcomponents). Go and edit your existing component, select whatever you want to separate and turn that geometry a nested component inside the parent component. When you turned everything into smaller items, you can even explode the parent components but you can also keep it intact.

I renders fine for me (however you cannot spin around as there are face-me components in it and the current version does not support them): [image: lZZ3_tree.png] Do you get the clip loaded for the image file? [image: CWWs_file.png] [image: HTjc_clip.png]

I like the explanations everyone has give here. I have never used 2-point perspective so thought this was very informative. Maybe a little off topic but I like to use the parallel view when aligning things (at least for the type of models I do) but then I switch to perspective mode when doing everything else. I just find it a little easier (for me) to do the alignments in parallel especially when I have components with subcomponents.

draw a rectangle on the ground sufficiently large so that you can develop a large grid with say 2'x2' or whatever measuring system you are using inches milimeters cubits parsecs whatever. The grid should already be a group. right click. edit group. mouse over grid. look at vcb to see radius of influence. type in preferred radius. mouse over grid. left click hold and drag upward or downward on screen (assuming you are in normal 3d view and not in some ortho view).

The Go2School DVDs look good from the point that there's consistency from one video to the next, and compared to the free videos, they fill in the gaps the free ones have. I found one from Massive Black on vehicle modeling for games with SketchUp that I'll be ordering also. What I meant to ask in my first post was are there any DVD sets organized like a content cookbook, you play the chapter for the content you're interested in and it goes through an hour of showing how it's build in SketchUp, with an emphasis on building the model for a virtual or game environment (there's a difference with making content for a game environment compared to making content used elsewhere). Some of the older books on game design were organized like this, but were written to teach Maya or 3D Max, and I had to get a second set of bifocals made to deal with nearsightedness (age and the genetic pool were not kind) so DVDs are preferred - otherwise I have to continuously switch glasses.

Nope, I thought that too. No luck. I also loaded it in 7 in case it just doesn't work with 8. No go there either.

Indeed YT does not allow "updating" of what's uploaded. So make sure you upload a final version.

Note that these 3D trees work perfectly (without poly reducing) in Kerkythea or Thea. You will need to adjust the materials though but than after saving, they are just fine.

When you export a 3D model, dimensions DO get exported to DWG as AutoCad dimensions if they are checked in the export options. However, for some weird reasons they are invisible when you open the DWG in Autocad. Doing something to them (you can select them by selecting all objects and then checking Rotated dimensions from the top of the Object Properties dialog), like changing their colour to Bylayer, suddenly makes them visible. Also if you open the Dimension styles dialog and open the Dimension style 1 as if to edit it, click OK and then exit the dialog without actually changing anything, or then import the file into another DWG file and explode it, the dimensions suddenly pop up. I hadn't noticed this, as I usually do all annotation and dimensioning in AutoCad and export only 2D or 3D geometry-and at work we still have v7. Anssi
