    • RE: Stupid Mistake - slip fit

      Hi Dave -
Thanks for the response. I figured that might be the way I would need to go.

My problem had been in bringing things into LayOut with dimensions to the various cut points and then using that to quickly cut all my pieces.

I had done this for a sandpaper organizer using baltic birch ply and just was moving too quickly - wound up having to sand down to accommodate for my dimensions. <<grin>>

    • Stupid Mistake - slip fit

I am working on making some pieces that have a slip fit moving part. (adjustable sawhorse)

I did a quick layout and exported to cutlist, cut out all my parts and assembled.

What I didn't account for is that I modeled everything, and got my dimensions based on, exact against each other.

How do you guys normally model pieces that are meant to be slip fit and moving?
Do you build everything using the inference and then reduce the dimensions (either in the model or during actual cutting)?

Before I get too much further and build my additional models I'd like to get a better handle on how to approach this.

      Thanks!
      Todd

    • RE: Error: Sketchup Cutlist to Cutlist Plus Express

      Hi Dave!

      Sketchup: v2015
      Plugin = v4.1.12
      Cutlist = Cutlist Plus Express v2013 1.0.1

      Thoughts?

    • Error: Sketchup Cutlist to Cutlist Plus Express

I'm trying to use the Cutlist plugin in Sketchup to export a file to the Cutlist PLus Express program.

The generation of the file seems to go ok, but then when I try and open the file in CPEx I get an error.

      The error is:
AR-101: Error reading document: file is either corrupted or has an unknown version number.

      Does anyone have any thoughts?

Do I need to upgrade the Cutlist program itself to a newer version?

I am having an issue with this new version.
I am logged in and it recognizes me on the profile tab. However when I go to installs, downloads or bundles all I get are blank windows.

This is in v2014 as I was going to try the bundles to migrate over to 2015

      Thoughts?

Just a note - this DC could be simplified by better positioning of the axis. The current axes are making things slightly more complicated than necessary.

      Thanks Jim -
In what way could the axes be better positioned.
I'm mor than happy to clean this up so that it becomes a useful model.

Then the LenX of the bottomFrame can be tied to the position of the Post.

      LenX: =fencePost!X - Fence!postWidth/2

The topFrame LenX is set equal to the bottomFrame LenX

Hey Jim - That works awesomely!

      One more question for you.

I realized that I made one mistake in the file.
The lattice needs to be moved over 0.75" so that it touches the face of the Fence post.
Then the topFrame and bottomFrame would need to decrease in width by 0.75".

I'm reading through the component attributes but it is a little confusing on how to make this simple change.

      Can you fill me in?

      Thanks!

    • RE: Question: keeping origin when scaling?

      Update:
      I'm much closer now.

I think I have the origin issue taken care of, and most everything scales as expected.

However the sub-component Lattice now scales a bit bigger than it should.

Try this new model and let me know what you think.

      Thanks again!

    • Question: keeping origin when scaling?

      Hi!

Thanks for all the advice in my other posts.
I think I am very close to having this fence taken care of, I just need to figure one issue.

When I scale the Fence component, each of the sub components seems to move differently rather than scale correctly in relation to one another.

I only want the fence to be able to scale in the LenX direction.

I've attached the file so you guys can take a look.

Can someone help me out/point me in the right direction?

      Thanks!
