"Program stops"? It crashes? And at only 1GB? Then it's not a 32bit limitation. As you said, it's way before the 32bit limit. Which normally is at around 2GB. With SU8M1 under a 64bit OS this is now 4GB - because they enable the large address aware flag. Now, what is the size of the model you have? Faces, edges, groups components etc? The only time I ever ran into such memory usage has been when rendering with V-Ray. Without I have never ever ran into memory limitation with SketchUp. And then I've used models with 2million faces and lots of textures...

I figured I was overlooking something. In any event, thank you both for clearing up the issues and thanks for the script reference. This is the best modeling software!

Hi, Thanks for your replies. I've tried hidden and un-hidden. The model is within a component but I double-click this in order to edit it (is this right?). There is a mixture of curved and flat faces, I'm attempting to edit a flat face. I'll attach my model in my next post if you are still stuck for answers. Cheers, Ginger_Overlord.

Another solution without plug Draw a simple Component on a segment of the circle Draw radius and trim the corners of the Component for have perfect fit junction between them for the complete circle Copy rotate *23 if your circle has 24 segments Edit the Component as you want Of course this works only for a circle not for a common curve! click for all image! If the model is first 'cleaned' - i.e. deleting coplanar edges/faces etc - JPP works just fine ...

You could also look at Tree[d] These can be saved as .obj files and imported into SU

daredevil yeh I saw your bridge, very impressive work. My models are a lot more humble but I aspire to create complex dynamic components. That is the reason why I would like to find out how to do these things nicely and elegantly. I presume the IF problem we both had is a problem with the way sketchup parses the IF function. I have a little experience with C++ from 20 years ago and would have expected it to work. Anyway I am wondering if I should learn Ruby and if these sort of things can be done in that. I am frustrated with the way you enter formulas in the dynamic component attributes dialogue, it works fine for simple components but it is difficult to read complex nested functions in such a small text box. Sometimes I have resorted to copy/paste into notepad, and use indentation to help match parenthesis and make it clearer and then copy/paste back. It would also be nice to be able to add comments. From seeing the bridge you've made you're obviously well ahead of me. I would like to produce fully configurable pieces of furniture and joinery for my business. Do you think I should persevere with Dynamic Components or will I discover that their limitations mean I should learn the Sketchup Ruby API? Again very impressive work you do, it would give me a real kick to produce something half as good as that

I tried the solution they posted, but the results were even more messed up. My account on Chaosgroup is new, so I can't even post any questions there...

@kenanaybati said: Hi all, I have just started to model ships, it is a correct way to make a hull? It's a piece of 'hull' [attachment=0:2ew50a1m]<!-- ia0 -->hull.jpg<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:2ew50a1m] The short answer is no usually splines are used. See these links for tut and free software. http://www.delftship.net/delftship/index.php/downloads/viewcategory/3-delftship-software http://www.delftship.net/delftship/index.php/downloads. These should give the ideas of approach and how Su can be used also. Clarification 4-7 I am not suggesting you use Delftship but rather as some reading so you know what the design process is and the "jargon" used so then you have some concept of what needs to be done in SU. There are some very nice SU models posted and they can be done ,but what I see in your initial post may very well give you some down stream problems.

Scaling them down within the UV space in Max will mean they now are the size of the imported texture. If you import the .skp into Max it will contain a 512px x 512px brick texture that is filling your UV space. So if you unwrap and arrange then you are effectively placing geometry within the 512 x 512 texture thus it will increase the brick size.

@barcop said: Gaius, thanks for the prompt answer and yes! i downloaded successfully, and installed in plug-ins folder, only to find that on opening SketchUp a load errors window appears saying error loading file, uninitialized constant traducer error. So am stuck again before I can get started with this seductive looking app. Gai's not on at the moment... So... on the thread where you did this download, just below the download-link there is another link to a get required 'library' [it says you need it!]. Get that archived file and extract its subfolder [with its contents intact] into Plugins as well. On a restart the required files should now be found and the errors should have gone... I'm also splitting these few posts into another thread as they are quite 'off topic'...

hi guys, thanks for your invaluable help. the original file didn't have changed axes, it happens during import between another programs too, and i can't change it any way. "Flatten vertices" plugin seems to solve this problem without a fuss is there any plugin to help you to move marked face into position of another face you choose. good job guys ! [image: zujcp1.jpg]

And, Thank You, Walt for making me wonder about this. I had not needed to do this specific verification before, but I could not believe you couldn't pull up this info in some way. There is probably some other way to get the info that I am not aware of.
